Tubby Smith and GG Smith couldn’t do it, but with a new coach High Point is going dancing

Stop it with the most overrated coach in NCAA history.

Tulsa has 4 Sweet 16’s in their history. He has 2 of them.
Georgia hasn’t been back to the Sweet 16 since he took them there 30 years ago (1 of 2 in their entire history).
He took Minnesota the furthest they have been in the tournament in the last 35 years.

His inability to get past the Elite Eight those other 3 years at UK is obviously a big let down. Regardless of what anyone thinks about 1998, he was the coach that brought home a title.

Was he a great coach? No, bit I don’t hear many people even trying to argue that. Was he a good coach…absolutely.
This. The man took FIVE different teams to the NCAAT. Only one of three guys to do that. The other one was his mentor, Rick Pitino.
You aren't overrated if your only one of three men to ever do to something.

Also did that an nary a scandal in sight. No missed tourneys, no scandals, won a title, took care of the program as long as he could. That's why he's in the Rafters. And deserved to be.

Every UK coach has 1 title except for Rupp.

Cal and Tubby have nearly the same win percentage overall and in conference. And one had waaaaaay more talent than the other.

Tubby never missed a tourney. Cal missed TWO. If it weren't for 2009-2012, Cal wouldn't have near the accolades.

Both coaches have given tons of money to the Commonwealth, but Tubby has always been more gracious to the fans. Every player Tubby had has spoken highly of him and a lot of player's parents have said he was tough but would have never thought a bad thing about Tubby Smith.

Hating Tubby Smith says a lot about someone as a person, and none of it is usually good.
I know for damn sure if Tubby recruited like Cal he would have won 3 titles.

But the question is - Did Tubby make UK better or worse?
To quote Knives Out - that's stupid with two O's

Like suggesting Gene Bartow was a failure because he didn't make UCLA better after Wooden. NOBODY was going to "make UK better" in the first years after Pitino no matter how good a coach they were. UK was at the pinnacle and it's unlikely even Pitino could have kept up that pace even if he's stayed.
