Troy

Troy is a pretty limited proving ground.
Yes, but he took them even farther and higher than Neal Brown did.

And speaking of NB, he pulled an 8-4 this season, and might have begun a sustainable upswing in Morgantown.

All things considered, I think the last two weeks have worked out perfectly for us.

Coach Stoops stayed, allowing Jon Sumrall a chance to prove (or disprove) his chops for at least a couple more years at a higher level. A native Alabaman, Sumrall will be introduced to Louisiana talent.

All is good!!

I agree all is well and I hope Stoops stays and thrives for a good while. You can understand my point that if a much more accomplished coach who checks all the boxes is available you go for him? This started because whoever it was stated no one else should even be considered.

I’ll not deny I’m a fan of Sumrall, but sure, we have the resources to shoot for the moon..

Heck, maybe Kirby Smart wants a new challenge . . . he’s only like 44 years old.

And there will be others possibly.

Frankly, we have several quality “birds in the hand,” and with the rise of UK from the ashes of 65 years of the cellar, who knows who might give us a look?

The Kirby Smart thing seems like a passive aggressive dig but we seem to be basically in agreement.

Actually, I’m very serious.

No, it is very unlikely, but Kirby ain’t a Georgia boy, he’s a Bama man.

Maybe he gets snubbed by Bama and seriously wants a new challenge.

Again, not likely, but how likely did Spurrier look as a future South Carolina Coach in 2000? In 2000, Spurrier was at his alma mater, winning at a huge clip, in possession of national titles, etc.

When we talk if “swinging for the fences,” who does that include? Meyer, Dabo (??), Kirby . . . . Saban is nearly as old as Biden.

Kirby is just mid-forties, more than a decade younger than Stoops. Maybe he goes NFL for a few seasons and when he wants back in the college game, Kentucky is the best slot open, similar to Spurrier’s path to USCe!!

Meyer is done and way past his prime imo. Dabo showed losing key staff revealed he isn't as good as we thought. He achieved about the same as us against a much worse schedule with probably better talent. Plus he definitely isn't made for the new era.

Other than Kirby (massive, massive longshot), I legitimately don't know who would be a guaranteed winner. That's one reason I'm glad stoops stayed and the same reason I think summrall has to be the call when he's gone.

You act as if Bear wanted to stay. He moved multiple times. Sumrall will never ever leave UK for greener pastures.
$$$$$ talks. Never said a word about Bear Bryant. Pitino said he asked the Celtics for money he knew they would refuse...what happened there? Coaching is a business and you follow the money....Georgia and Auburn had coaches coaching at the time who played at the other school. Schnellengurger, Benedict coached at u6, Kenny Payne was #1 assistant at UK.

$$$$ doesn’t talk for everyone.

Name someone it dosen't in the athletic coaching ranks please? Look at Stoops and TAM. Stoops is making North of 8 million a year for a record that would get him fired there. Nobody is paying near what he makes at UK with no demands on anything over 7/ 8 win seasons. He's here till retirement .

Comparing Stoops loyalty to Sumrall’s is your mistake. Sumrall will coach at UK if ever given the opportunity. I’m not going to argue with ya. Some of us know some of these folks. Think you know it all you want on this topic. But you don’t.

$$$$$$$$$$$$ I never said JS wouldn't coach at UK. He is a husband and father and his FIRST priority is to his family. That comes before UK.

Again, you’re guessing. I’m not. JS will coach at UK if given the opportunity. Don’t care if he is coaching the Dallas Cowboys, Alabama or the Tulane Green Wave.
Time will tell. I hope someday soon he has the opportunity to be UK's HC, but if Alabama or Georgia calls, he's gone.

Kirby Smart at 44 is kinda scary. Another 20 years of him at UGA is not fun to think about having to compete against. He’ll dust anything Bear Bryant or Nick Saban accomplished. Surely Sabsns nearing the end. He’s not gonna go the way of Joe Paterno and coach till he dies is he?

Curiously, have you ever met Coach Sumrall?

He’s an impressive fellow in person.

He’s made an old fat guy like me want to run through a wall for him.

God knows how he affects an athletic 20’year old!
100% he’s got that it factor. I’ve only been around him in brief spurts, but you can tell he can fit into any situation, makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome. He’s the type of person you root for. I’m sure hoping Tulane is his last stop before he comes back home to Kentucky and he builds us into a great program.
