I think Jim Master was too. Drawing a blank on the last one. You counting Shawn Kemp? Wasn't he from Elkhart, IN?
The 6 UK McDonalds All-Americans from Indiana are
1. Jim Master - 1980
2. Roger Harden - 1982
3. James Blackmon - 1983
4. Shawn Kemp - 1988
5. Marquis Teague - 2011
6. Trey Lyles - 2014
Total bs question.
Always one of my favorite questions. Who is the only UK player to be top 10 (he was actually top 7 in all of them) in points, assists and steals all time at UK when his career was over?
That's it. He put up some great numbers at UK. When he left, he was the following on the all-time UK list:I'm going to guess Ed Davender.
Dirk Minniefield.Always one of my favorite questions. Who is the only UK player to be top 10 (he was actually top 7 in all of them) in points, assists and steals all time at UK when his career was over?
Yeah. Whenever the topic of most underrated players comes up, I always say Davender. Truly an underrated player at UK.Davender was smooth. Always played at same speed...
I was in my dorm once at Rick Pitino camp and Ed Davender walked in my room. Think he was friends with the counselor who was staying on our floor that week.
I remember he was wearing some outfit that was covered head to toe in Mercedes emblems.
There's your random, almost forgotten fact of the day.

Mel Turpin is the other guy who was way under-valued imo. You here so much more about Bowie. When Turpin left he was #10 all-time in scoring, 13 all-time in rebounding, 1st all-time in blocked shots, 8th all-time in field goals and 2nd all-time in FG%.

Those #'s make Ed the most under appreciated player to ever lace 'em up for the Cats, imo. That's it. He put up some great numbers at UK. When he left, he was the following on the all-time UK list:
7th in points
4th in assists
1st in steals
5th in free throw attempts
Nicknamed: Dinner-Bell-MelRIP Mel. Fun story-
While living on campus, coach actually paid a student manager to sit outside Mel's room to ensure Mel didn't sneak out to get food. Dude was big, and he liked to eat. Mel, being as hungry and as focused as he was on eating, decided to pay the student more to sneak him fast food behind coaches back. Mel told me that story not long before he passed. Man he laughed about that. He was truly a nice guy.

Big Mel was not only an All-American basketball player here. He was an All-American person. Truly one of the all time best persons anyone will ever meet.Love that nickname. Also called the "Mealman." Although, he was considered at the time as one of the few players who ate his way out of the league. Had a brother who was 6'10" that worked for me for a while. He would change the light bulbs in my ceiling with no ladder.
Northwestern is the obvious one. Washington State the other?Who are the only two Major-Conference programs that have never advanced to the Sweet 16?
- 1 of them is obvious
- The other requires some thought

Yep. I ran into him at a gas station in Hilton Head in the mid 80's. Super nice guy. One of the guys who I think belongs up in the rafters at Rupp.Agree 100%. Guy was genuinely good hearted and kind. Always a smile.
