Trey Lyles, what are your thoughts about his NBA potential

What do you remember about him as a person? Anything at all other than that he's from Indiana? I don't dislike him at all, just seemed like it went fast with few memories of him.

His father was an R&B artist. I get your point, but we could say this same thing about many of the OAD guys, or even guys like Willis and Hawkins. I mean, they're college kids. How much should we know about them before it gets creepy?

I haven't heard someone be called a dork in Atleast 15 years. As for the pissing match let it go it's not worth it. Tone can't be shown on a message board so if you haven't been around for a while things can get misconstrued and posters get bent out of shape. Best advice I can give, is never take anything on here serious[/QUOTE]

Listen Jerk!

Trey lyles had a long neck which disrupted the fast paste offense. Furthermore, he plays in Utah, quite possibly the worst state you can live in unless your Mormon. Nobody wants to play for the Jazz lol. You never see any big time free agents have Utah on their list. It's mainly don't call me I'll call you like in Philadelphia lol. The only reason guys go there is nobody else wanted them or they were drafted there, unfortunately
he has a brother named deuce. or maybe it's a sister.

I mean, the OP did make it sound at first like he's going after Trey or Cal's system.

But the observation itself is pretty innocuous and really easy to summarize - he was a quiet. And some other guys had quirks like Bledsoe with his .50 caliber arms and freak athleticism or Willie with his sidewalk drawing and crazy hair - In contrast, Trey is really average looking guy (for a basketball player), no tattoos, not particularly happy or sad on the sidelines.. just a dude who played well and represented our university in a fine way, getting in no trouble while being a big part of a 38 win season.

So he might not have stuck out as with Cousins or MKG or the like, but as far as performance on and off the court, he's exactly the kind of kid we expect to get here under Cal. So he's a little milquetoast - that's just fine. There are way worse things to be - many other universities have had image problems or losing problems in the last few years with their kids. Not us.

this is pretty much what I was thinking. For me, Trey is no afterthought or easily forgotten - then again, none of them are. But I can (almost) see where the OP was going with this. He WAS very quiet here - wasn't a character, didn't have some crazy personality trait that makes him memorable. But he could play - and he played well.

I suspect almost everyone knew where the OP was going with this thread, but most everyone also saw where they could push it as well. Given that almost everyone on this board, and the overall posting attitude on this board, is slightly assholish, they chose the second route. Which is fine with me. makes for fun reading! Keep it up guys.

My own personal opinion - the OP is a troll who roots for UL, and he tried to ruffle feathers saying Lyles was a nobody while here; while at the same time insisting Cals system is basically just the NBDL and gives us no real opportunity to invest in our team on a personal level.

jk of course.

The platoon system limited his minutes and he didn't act all flashy after a bucket like Booker. Also didn't pout after fouls like the twins. So not a lot of camera time.

That's right! See, I can't remember hardly anything about him. I guess he almost went to Indiana so that's where I got that.

No, you got that from the fact that he's really from Indianapolis. Trey was born in Canada and has Canadian citizenship, but he grew up and played all his schoolboy ball in Indy.

Biggest thing I remember is that he never missed a mid-range jumper.... Never.... Not one.... 39 games and never missed.

Huh? So you have trouble remembering a player that just last season was a starter on the cat team that had a historic 38-0 start and went to the FF? Well, that's on you buddy, I suggest you get that memory checked.

I have no issues with Lyles, but I just don't remember much about his play that stands out. One poster above said he hit some free throws that kept us in the game against A& M... Free throws.... that pretty much proves the point I was trying to make. I'm glad he played here, represented UK with class and helped us to 38-0. Just saw him on the TV last night and it made me think how fast it went and how little I rememeber about him. I remember 38-0 and don't need any memory checks, but thanks.

You were correct. He was born in Canada but he is from Indiana. The UK athletics site lists his hometown as Indianapolis. He always seemed pretty quiet and reserved. On the floor he wasn't flashy. It's hard to get to know a kid like that in one year. All the attacks in this thread have been a bit ridiculous.

It's the first thread I've ever started here and I should have known it would get twisted into something more than what it was. Wish I hadn't turned on the Kings/Jazz game last night. Geez, you can't make an observation here or you are going after Cal! You're a troll ! A Uof L Fan in hiding !!!! Pathetic. Last thread I'll ever start.

I specifically said in the thread that I had no issues with him. It's not my fault that so many dorks with their little IMG's and detective kits come running everytime someone starts a thread. This is the 1st and last thread I've ever started on the basketball site. Not interested in going back and forth with little kids.

Can't say as I blame you. Some of the unnecessary ridicule came from good posters. Anyone should have been able to see what you were saying.

Not interested in going back and forth with Little kids that watch Fake Wrestling, that is.
HAHA. Settle down, friend. If you let people get this under your skin in a basketball message board, that sounds like it is more on you. Don't let it hurt your feelings.

It's all in good fun for the most part. This is just what happens when we are between games; especially after the last one was such a train wreck. You really shouldn't take it personally. I've been blistered on here numerous times. It's all usually the same crew. Look at it this way, at least you gave us something to talk about. We appreciate that.

Trey Lyles is a very good basketball player that the city collage just west of Lexington would have set up the stripper pole to have had there

Look, bubba. I'm the closest thing you have to an advocate in this thread, so it would serve you well to calm your titties and try to understand the message I was conveying, and in turn examine how your own words in the OP mirrored those of trolls in the past.

They come in with lines about how basketball just isn't what it used to be with all the mercenaries who don't give an ish about the university and have no connection to the fan base and leave after 9 months and blah blah - stuff that we all know is silly when we see Karl walking around with UK everything, Booker tweeting about every game, Boogie with his UK logo court built into his house, Wall with his perennial bracket bets with teammates, etc.

I'm just saying what you vaguely sound like. No, I don't think you're actually a troll.

I'm not your daddy. I'm not here to tell you what to post. I'm just cluing you in as to why you're catching hell in this thread - and if you don't mind that happening every time you start a new one, then by all means, carry on.

trey averaged 9 and 5, playing in all 38 games, started in 21. 1 dribble pull up jumpers, baseline dunks, driving into the lay for and 1s.

if you dont remember any of that....then you either didnt watch or werent paying attention.

1. Rival fan (doesnt have to be a UL fan) who is trying to start a thread hoping a bunch of UK fans get down on the one and done because players aren't here long enough yada yada yada.

2. A UK fan who yearns for the so called glory days. if this is the case I warn all like it, this way of thinking lead to IU becoming irrelevant. If you want to stay at the forefront, you have to be willing to change and innovate.

Seeing how the OP just started in November and is already complaining about everything.... I think #1 is the truth.

You're dead wrong. Where did you buy your detective kit?

Look, hoss....you take yourself and message boards way too seriously. You've made a bunch of internet friends and you can all get together and bully new posters. Your parents raised you to do that? SMH. I have no use for you. Ignored.

Bit of a volatile temperament on the OP. I welcome you to the forum, but your thin-skin won't serve you well here, or on any public forum for that matter. Chill out, man.

Silly me. When people ask if I want to touch their wanker, I find it pretty ignorant. ..... I'll do just fine here once I figure out who to put on ignore. I actually did just fine here until I started my first thread. I won't start one again. Mostly just look at the board for breaking news anyway. Thank you though.

People jumped on OP but I don't know if he meant any disrespect. Between being 1 of 10 guys playing, playing out of position a lot, missing time with illness that slowed his development and for a while slowed his fitting into a rhythm with the team, I felt like we barely got to know Trey and never truly got to see him make use of his great potential. I feel like I know less about him than any of the other 10 guys in last year's rotation. Have to disagree with those who are down his NBA potential. Hasn't gotten much PT this year but I like his potential as a skilled stretch 4.

If that's your idea of bullying, then it's pretty clear that you're the one who can't cope with the real world.

I didn't go after you even the slightest bit in my original post, you responded to me with indignation, and then I explained to you exactly what was going on, with no malice, no bossiness, just a straight factual analysis.

If you don't care about it, fine - again, post however you want. You just seemed taken aback by why this thread had such a mixed reception and I was trying to help you out.

But if you actually don't care about the silly little message board politics, you're doing an awful job at showing it, since you're getting riled up and doing that silly "I'm better than you at real life, where it counts" willy-wagging and going around individually telling posters off for disagreeing with your phrasing.

And no, you're not. I promise. But that doesn't matter. Everybody has an equal shot here.

But either be more careful with your phrasing or stop caring so much about what people think.

As it is, you sounded vaguely trollish, and yet you're soft as a pancake. "Opinionated but soft" is an awful personality combo for dealing with the internet. And life.
