Which school(s) are willing to pay Travis 3-4 times ($750k - $1mil) next year?
Nico and his dad are idiots. They went from a state with no state income tax to the state with the most taxes.
I believe that is incorrect. I think California passed a bill a while back to make anyone working in the state longer than 3 months to automatically be taxed as a resident.
Two of those others are Frank Kornet from Lexington Catholic and Scott Draud from Ft. Thomas Highlands. Kornet was All-SEC in 1989 and played for the Bucks in the NBA. His son Luke also went to Vandy and is still playing in the NBA with the Celtics. Their father was a UK professor. Draud was All-SEC in 1991 and made nearly 300 three-point shots in his career. He is the principal at Newport High School where UK target Tay Kinney may be returning next season.

“He could potentially make 3-4 times that elsewhere.” $250k x 3 = $750k, x4 = $1 mil. So you are saying he would make $750k or $1 mil next year at Vandy, Ole Miss, and Maryland. The possibility also exists that after next season he makes less at these schools if he slides down the roster. I like Travis but don’t believe he is a starting point guard on an SEC team. He will improve over his freshman year but has 2 physical liabilities that he cannot or only slightly improve. First is quickness - you either have this trait or you don’t. Second is his physical stature. - he is probably done growing in height and has a slight build. Again he can get stronger and still at 19 will get stronger as he matures.
His strengths are shooting and a feel for the game. He could be valuable against zones and at end of games as a great free throw shooter. But defensively, he is below average. If he plays significant minutes against us; Lowe, Aberdeen, Chandler, and Oweh would score at will. And that would be true with all SEC teams and most high major teams, you need to try and hide him defensively. These liabilities will prevent him from being a starter. Maybe at Western, Eastern, No. Kentucky he plays significant minutes and maybe starts.
I cannot blame him for leaving. I think he just wants to play and realizes that will never happen at UK and I hope he will be happy at his next destination.

Why do you think they put the new rules in place. California is going to get any money owed to them and it isn’t like he is a mystery resident. He also took less than he was going to get @ Tenn.

I expected Perry to bust his ass this summer and make himself a better player for next year and in the future for UK. I’m disappointed he’s opting out but wish him the best. If the Vandy degree is the important thing to him, and i’m sure it is, he should have chosen to play there outta High School.
The state of California will get 13% of every penny Nico gets. That is 13% of his gross, not net income. The city of LA has a work tax and then he has federal taxes. He will net about 48% after all taxes. Actually could be much less after he pays his Dad.
I turned down a big raise last week because I’m loyal to my colleagues and don’t want any future grandchildren to be spoiled.
Coming from a UK grad, a Vandy diploma is worth a LOT more than a UK diploma.

I am with you. I don’t care about Perry’s NIL or anyone’s tax rate.
If I had to guess, he would get bottom tier NIL on our team. I’m thinking that is $150,000-$300,000. We currently tot have 9 guys getting NIL money, so Perry would be the 10th and I bet our last addition to this team.
Long term earning potential in Lexington greater than any other payday to sit the bench elsewhere. Makes no sense financially. Makes no sense basketball wise either. The only logical reason for him to transfer is to play every game at lower level.

You may have hit the nail on the head. That is exactly why we should wish the kid the best except when he plays us.
The only thing that makes any sense to me about this move is the coaching staff asked him to redshirt and he got offended and left. I see no other reason for him to leave.
