Travis Perry

He’s gonna need to develop speed and strength to defend in the SEC. If he’s getting big minutes we re in trouble. Pope should red shirt him this year because he’s not ready at this level. He’s not getting faster but can get stronger, read and anticipate better he may be able to compensate for his weaknesses.

I am still high on players like Noah & Perry. They were freshmen who showed some glimpses of their potential, while struggling as they develop their game in the tough SEC. They will be contributors before they leave. Great for player retention to have around the program for 3-4 years. They get an offseason to improve after some experience this year. Looking forward to seeing what they do as sophomores.

He’s a great shooter and solid ball handler. Needs to work on his passing and ability to finish at the rim. That being said I felt like he caught a bad whistle all season. Seamed like everytime he got clobbered at the rim they wouldn’t call a foul. But he has a ton of potential.
Does need work finishing at the rim. But my goodness, he had 3-4 layup attempts this year where he got absolutely hammered and there was no call.

Exactly. He caught the worst whistle of anyone on the team. Got called for several weak fouls on defense but would get destroyed at the rim on offense and no call.

For UK fans it's been a long time since we've seen real freshman grow over 3-4 seasons.

Perry is going to get stronger he has world class facilities and coaches. He clearly can shoot the basketball and fininishing as mentioned will come with experience and strength.

No one is going to fault Perry if he wants to jump ship and get 25+ min a game somewhere else.. but I think having him and Noah for 4 years would be special.

He has to do what Cameron Mills did before he got playing time. He got it unbelievable shape. He jumped higher, his shot was released higher, he could run all day long. He had the will power to change his body, not easy to do. He has to want to get stronger, lighter (more muscle less body fat), and then finally get his cardio up to elite level. Heck every person has it in them. If you do not think so, try going to basic training in the USMC or ARMY. Everyone can do way more than they think their bodies can.

It’s because he’s so small, unless you’re a dynamic athlete that gets up high it’s hard to get those calls sometimes. I think he will be a solid player at some point but his athleticism and size is what it is. That’s why he has a ceiling especially defensively.

I agree, but the hard part is that it might not come this year, and we really need to have another backup PG because I don't think we can roll with Perry (if Lowe gets injured) and expect to compete for a Final 4.

But I do agree, he has a bright future. And I expect some great performances.

No offense to Perry, but he and noah arent even in the same conversation at the moment. Noah was arguably our best rebounder, definitely best 50/50 ball player, finished several shots at the rim, way more physical, was a noticably better shooter than Perry, and is still growing. Noah was always a positive.

Noah will probably see minutes next year. Perry is just a long way away.

Perry is fine. He was fine as a 6-8 minute a game guy last year. No reason he can’t improve and up that as a Sophomore.

He was challenged when he was forced to play 25-30 minutes a game, but he gutted it out.

Helped us beat Vandy. Helped us stay in position to win at Texas, although you could say he helped us lose at the end as well. Was overmatched the two games vs. Bama but still scored in double figures both games and generated 4 steals in the first one.

He isn’t “a long way away” unless you’re talking about being a long way away from the NBA draft or All-SEC.

But he has a ton of potential.
I must say, “ton of potential” ain’t the words I’d ever use for Perry.

In fact, he strikes me as basically the opposite: a guy who’s worked his ass off to already maximize most of his potential at an unusually early age. But his room to become much more than his current self is limited by his lack of physical gifts. He’s always gonna be slow-footed, never gonna have the explosiveness and lateral quickness needed to become a top tier defender/driver, and he ain’t getting any bigger.

But he can still have a damn nice career as a sharpshooting role player off the bench. But to do so he’s gonna have to shoot better than he did this year.

Perry I feel is signed up for the long hau he knows what he’s up against. Seems like a guy like him would go to wku or somewhere close for a couple years, start, get game experience then transfer in to UK

With the 15 man roster we should be able to field a JV team. I remember it was a thing with pitino and before but never hear of it anymore. And more roster spots should equal more games. I feel like 6-8 somewhere in there more games.

% says Noah was .009 better than Perry.
Noah 36 att. Perry 53.
Takes a sharp eye to notice that.
Other than that, I agree totally.

When he injured his shooting wrist/dominant hand against Alabama in the SEC Tournament?

Well before that. Thats why they shifted Chandler, who has an awful handle, into the pg position.

Thats a very valid point. From where i sit, that's damning because Perry is billed as an elite shooter. So no one should be above him, let alone a fellow freshman who has so many extra attributes and values.
