Transfer safety Zion Childress visiting UK

IMO Texas St to UK (SEC) is a huge step up. I’d prefer a P5 CB but I guess UK couldn’t find one to their liking.

I trust stoops but it is a little eye raising to see two db transfers come from much lower competition.

We have 2 DB portals so far, one was a starter at Ole Miss, played 4 yrs against indisputably a harder schedule than UK typically does.

the other in the fold is like a hs recruit, don't look at him as an instant helping band aid. Going to need development time, just like the guys we signed. I'd bet this Texas St kid is much the same, with several yrs of eligibility left.

And we lost a couple that the staff probably didn’t see coming. Put ‘‘em behind the 8 ball a little bit depth wise.

Pretty sure we got another that transferred up from a lower division. Not sure if that required the portal or not.

I suspect Zion will get significant depth snaps if he can learn to tackle.

It's happening all the time in basketball. Can they be physically ready for football at this level? That is the question. Maybe there are a bunch of players that were missed in high school recruiting. Didn't all time great Jerry Rice come from some smaller conference school? Not saying he is the next Rice, just that big schools didn't always get the best players.

Look at the just completed NFL draft, healthy number of smaller school players drafted. I have no idea how much these players will contribute but Stoops/staff see something they like and that's good enough for me.

I think Stoops does a decent job of evaluating DB's.
Well....it's not that simple.

I think the rule that SEC transfers can't play unless they hit portal before 2.1 has alot to do with why UK is looking for 2022 DB...not down the road. And the kids don't want to sit a year so they are looking for schools they can play right away.

So I think this also plays into the DB room right now. And we are paying the price a bit for all the DB transfer/leaving early right now. Devonshire, Stanley Garner, Mo Douglas, even Kelvin Joseph coming for 1 year...probably had some guys looking for another DB room.

Devonshire on roster would be nice right now. So would Brown. I'm still not clear on what happened in both case, though I assume both were put off by the Kelvin Joseph dynamic... didn't appreciate our eagerness to court free agents.

Notice Childress posted on Twitter "denied on da UK." What does that mean? I read that as UK didn't offer him, what about you?

Maybe. Or his classes didn't tfer, like the Syracuse WR who committed here last Nov before it was figured out he wouldn't be eligible.

What is even more eye raising, is that every SEC coach listed lack of DB depth/experience as their main concern for next season. Including Saban and Kirby Smart.

I don't know why suddenly there is such a dearth of talent at DB unless all the younger kids with the speed and athletic ability to play the position are opting for the more glamorous positions at WR.

I expect CMS feels lucky to have found a couple of hidden gems, potentially. Trust in Stoops.

Brown was young and I am almost sure he was getting beat a lot. Dev came in one game and gave up a lot. But both were young and I am sure they improved. Joseph had a lot of tools you couldn’t deny him a spot. Wish they both would of stuck around think they would of played. Transfer portal makes it easy to leave now.

That's a very good observation and interesting point.

I definitely agree we should trust stoops and staff ability to eval recruits.

Too easy!

Ah yes, the days of UK fans wildly misinterpreting the tweets of Bowden or other 18 & 19 yr old young men
