Scott County...6'3 205 1B/3B . Watchd a segment on he and his very supportive grandma. Been a u6 commit since his sophomore year and said it was hard because he was raised a UK fan and his entire family was BIG BLUE. . Mingione and staff(will they be there) need to step up and kids like this belong in KPP!!! Very disappointing.

I know the Willhoite family. Great people. And this is a little alarming to read that he’s a lifelong UK fan but going to UofL. I wonder if Minge and company even reached out to him.

The story is to be about Janet, his grandmother and her photography, not Trace going to U of L vs UK. Don’t turn this story about recruiting. It was a feel good story, nothing really to do with baseball.

If you know the Willhoite family you would know about Traces’ recruitment

Any relation to Jerry?

Yes, it was about the grandmother , but he talked about his recruitment and the fact that his family were UK fans and it was a difficult decision...did you not catch that part of it if you watched it? So, are you willing to share the story behind his recruitment?

I don't feel it's my business to share his recruitment journey, just wanted to make a point that the story was more about his grandmother and not about his recruitment.

Ok...but it covered both. Great to have a grandma like that and I didn't know much about his recruitment and it was at a "high time" for the Mingone staff. Just curiosity and seems like a head scratcher. Thanks.

I know the family. Great player and even better kid. Louisville was on him hard and early. Hard to compete with their track record of winning and player development to the next level.

Mingione and staff have missed out on numerous high D1 kids just in the Central KY 11th Region alone.

Yes they have ...had great momentum with evertthing in place...it is why MB needs to cut bait and go offer Williams a big fat raise so there isn't another couple years wasted like the last two!!

Who are some of these elite talents they've missed on? Not saying Perfect Game is the Bible, but according to there rankings UK has signed plenty of the higher ranked talent from Central KY.

Good job... thank you. Any info what UK'S status us with these guys? Know Estep has already signed. How many of them are considered SEC talent because I know we have very few at the present time.

Good question. Most are signed already as they are all seniors. One is signed to Miss St and several to UofL. Those guys could all play SEC if they can play for UofL.

Also- Indiana, Wichita St, and Liberty have been NCAA postseason clubs of late.

Hacker may end up being the best pitcher of the bunch. He leads the state in K’s and is a prime draft prospect.

Sorry, I see where they were either signed or ccommitted...so you are the flagship university and your arch rival rival has four of these guys with NONE from Louisville , one from YOUR BACK DOOR with another signing with an SEC school. PITIFUL!!!

Thanks for the research. 2019 is indeed a question mark for in-state recruiting. In 2018, UK signed 4 of the top 7 in-state and 2017 had 6 of the top 16. UK has 4 in-state commitments in the class of 2020 with 3 of those ranked top 10.

CD, what is your source you are using for 2020 class...just looked and saw u6 has 1-3-6 players... 1 from Louisville, 1 from PAINTSVILLE and one from OWENSBORO two supposedly BBN strongholds! McDonald is so far ahead of Mingione that I'm beginning to believe the only hope UK has is for him to get hired away and I don't see that happening unfortunately !!

The ranking that I found was from Prep Baseball Report. I don't have a subscription to Perfect Game so I couldn't see their rankings from 2019 and beyond. PBR has UK with 2, 5 and 10. Granted theses rankings were posted in August of 2017. Things may have changed. And I completely agree that McDonnell and UL is way ahead of Mingione and the Cats. And it will be hard for UK to close that gap unless he leaves Louisville.

I hate u6, but MacDonald has done amazing things there. Would like /hope to have pitching coach Williams at UK next year. No longer see Mingione getting it done here.

Louisville has 2 guys who could be talented head coaches on their staff- William and Snider. Mingione doesn’t have that. Fanning is obviously losing in recruiting and his reputation on the road during tournaments and showcases is a joke. Bellinger has struggled to put together a good staff (although young).

Most of the 2017 kids are gone or buried in the depth chart. They were Henderson’s kids and Mingione didn’t really want them. They were mostly asked to leave this year and pursue other options. The 2020 class will be interesting to see if Fanning can hold it together. Hard to sell a dream when you are progressively taking steps backwards each year. Two years without NCAA play and if they miss the SEC this year...frustrating for us....could be damaging for them

Back to the original topic. Saw this on a Twitter about Willhoite from Scott County:

@oaksi72

Final regular season offensive numbers for Scott County 1B/3B/RF/P Trace Willhoite:

.460 AVG (100 AB), .556 OBP (126 PA), .770 SLG, 46 H, 14 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 38 RBI, 42 R, 17 BB, 10 K, 7 HBP, 9 SB.

34.0 IP, 4-1, 48 K, 0.636 ERA, .143 BAA

Looks like UofL got a good one from our backyard. The 11th Region is stout
