Listening to a CBB podcast today & they were discussing some NIL and portal stuff and they said essentially they’ve heard some of the “big programs” have had and are gonna have trouble getting sought after portal names b/c they keep getting a dynamic where they can pay say:
1) 1.5 mil for a kid and he’s one of 4-5 big guys they’re looking to add and they have 8-9 mil to spend;
2) But then another smaller program like say Clemson is able to come in and pay 2.5-3 mil for him and blow like 50-70% of their NIL budget on one guy b/c the rest of the roster will be much cheaper & they just want that one guy to build around.
Just a tough dynamic to navigate and gonna take some guys that can REALLY sell to recruits that taking a pay cut is worth it for the platform and chance to play with other top guys.
