Plus and minus is so interesting to me. Butler was a plus 41 (best on the team), yet he just had 6pts 5a and 3stl.. so while his stats weren't great, his presence on the floor clearly was. When he was on the court, his defense and his play making were great enough that the team created a 41pt difference, despite the pretty modest individual stats.

THAT'S a great basketball player.

I have a feeling that might be a bit of an issue. It's the exact reason I was hoping we could have gotten Great Osobor to come in and be a part of this team. Unfortunately, he didn't really fit the offensive side of the ball despite his nearly 18pts per game.
If you are making a good percentage of your shots, there isn't much to rebound. However, I do understand your concern.

I think our team plays more like a man's team with Butler and Oweh on the floor, I imagine their minutes will go up in regular play.

One thing I'm becoming aware of in this offense is it discourages DJ wagner type drives to the hole through contact. Many times a dribbler will head toward the bucket, stop before contact and kick it out, even if they have had a step on their man. I kind of wish some of those drives ( maybe 25%) would not be stop and kick. Take it to the hole.

Butler is the best player on the team IMO. Dude is incredible

Brea has been a bit of a disappointment so far. I hope his shooting improves. Perry looks lost ,tentatitjve, might not be ready this year. Garrison much better on offensive end than I expected. I think the question of do we have a go to guy has been answered as well. Robinson is a stud

I thought Perry and Brea both played well against KWC. Noah got more clock than Perry tonight because we needed rebounding with Williams out. But Travis still came up with a pair of steals in 6 minutes. He’ll be fine. Brea had an off game but I’m not worried about his shooting. Defense/quickness is my main concern with him. I’m just glad we have a coach who rewards the best performers with the most minutes. What an outrageous concept!

I hadn't noticed how low most of our player numbers are.

Also, when did they start allowing greater than number 5 on uniforms? Apparently this year.

Great plus minus despite the fact he was on the floor for a significant stretch in the first half when Kentucky had no one on the floor over 6-5 and allowed Minn St to make it a one point game.

I thought Kriisa really lifted the team and played at a very fast pace. He had 6 assist in 16 minutes. Energy on top of energy. Going to be hard to keep him off the floor. Only hit 1/4 from 3, but his shot will come, he is a little rusted, but it will come around. He would get the ball immediately after a made basket and headed up the floor initiating the offense. That was a slick no look.

Robinson was the only dude that could make a 3 for us. We shoot like that as a team against a quality opponent, we are beat.
So, just so we are clear. By “shoot like that” you mean 53.6% from the field, 35% from 3 (we were close to 40% before garbage time with a 30 point lead), and 98 points scored. I’ll go out on a limb here and say we don’t score 98 points and lose very often. As a point of fact, in our entire history when we score 100+ points we win 89% of the time. I will guarantee if we score 98 we might lose, but if we do it’ll be a close game.

I know +/- seems to be a stat referred to a lot on here. Individually, especially in a one game sample size, it's a pretty bad metric to measure. It's best used, in an individual measure, over a 10+ game sample size. The absolute best way to use +/- is lineup construction.

Brea and Carr haven’t been much of a factor hitting 3’s so far . Imagine when they start hitting them . And based on their careers, it’s only a matter of time.

One thing’s for sure… we start our 5 best players.
I'll be interested to see when we face really good/athletic teams. I'm not sure Carr and Williams can play together for long. Carr is really going to struggle defending an athletic 4. Williams or Garrison has to be in to protect the rim. I'm pretty interested to see what Pope's version of a smaller lineup will look like. I think, at times, his hand will be forced to only be able to play one of Garrison, Williams, or Carr. A big part of me thinks Chandler's ability to work his way into the lineup will play a role in all of this.

Well I can guarantee we aren’t going undefeated if that’s what you were thinking. But 75% from 2’s and 35% from 3’s is pretty good, lol .
If we shot 35.15% from 3 for the whole season it would be the 22nd best 3 point shooting team in our entire history. And we are pretending it’s a bad shooting night? If it is, and most nights we shoot better, then we definitely aren’t getting beat much.

You better hope he's not the best player, but he's definitely the straw that stirs the drink. If Lamont Butler is the THE BEST player on this team, .500 might not be a realistic goal. He's just not that type of player. But he's a guy you need if you're going to be really good.

Depends. Best vs Most Valuable.

The shooting will be there. I'm not worried about that.

My biggest concern with the box score: 39 rebounds for us to 37 for them. We should be dominating them on the boards. I'll give them: It's so hard to be all the way dialed in for these pre-season exhibition games. But I hope they really attack the boards once the season starts.

Idk man, I'm worried a team where Jaxson Robinson is the best player is going to struggle. Lamont Butler can't really be either, IMHO. Is he valuable? Duh, of course. I just think the ceiling is low where he's either of those things. Thankfully, with this group, I think the sum of the parts is the real value. 1-8 they seem solid, which is where most of my hope lies. I think a fair starting point is where most have us, top 25ish and a 4-6 seed. If the sum of the parts is in fact very solid, I think the ceiling is quite a bit higher than that.

If we are a top 25ish 4/6 seed in tournament I will be very happy considering what CMP walked into .

I think maybe it's taking some guys some time to get adjusted to the speed we play. Those two are just as good if not better shooters than Robinson but he's way over performing them. The difference is Robinson is used to playing fast. I'm hoping that some of our guys will get more used to the game speed and the shots will start falling then.

Yeah I don't think this means he's our best player, or that hes going to post 40's many more times. It's just that, for this game specifically, when he was on the floor, the team had a 40pt difference. Now that could just simply be that the guys happened to make shots when he was in, and miss shots when he was out. But I'd like to think that his presence is what helped the team create that disparity.. Ball movement, body spacing, defense, all of it. Just think it's pretty cool when someone can affect the game like that, while not having the individual stats to show it.
