We only had 2 more rebounds.
If you are making a good percentage of your shots, there isn't much to rebound. However, I do understand your concern.I have a feeling that might be a bit of an issue. It's the exact reason I was hoping we could have gotten Great Osobor to come in and be a part of this team. Unfortunately, he didn't really fit the offensive side of the ball despite his nearly 18pts per game.
From what I have watched of Pope's old teams that is what they want, high percentage 2's or wide open 3's. Similar to What Alabama has been doing. If my math is right we shot 75% from 2 point range.
Butler is the best player on the team IMO. Dude is incrediblePlus and minus is so interesting to me. Butler was a plus 41 (best on the team), yet he just had 6pts 5a and 3stl.. so while his stats weren't great, his presence on the floor clearly was. When he was on the court, his defense and his play making were great enough that the team created a 41pt difference, despite the pretty modest individual stats.
THAT'S a great basketball player.
But I was told starting doesnt matter. One thing’s for sure… we start our 5 best players.
Brea has been a bit of a disappointment so far. I hope his shooting improves. Perry looks lost ,tentatitjve, might not be ready this year. Garrison much better on offensive end than I expected. I think the question of do we have a go to guy has been answered as well. Robinson is a stud
I was thinking the same thing...breath of fresh air. So was Pope's info about the injuries to Kerr and Williams. Not to mention an actual inbounds play. All nice to see.One thing’s for sure… we start our 5 best players.
Great plus minus despite the fact he was on the floor for a significant stretch in the first half when Kentucky had no one on the floor over 6-5 and allowed Minn St to make it a one point game.Plus and minus is so interesting to me. So, just so we are clear. By “shoot like that” you mean 53.6% from the field, 35% from 3 (we were close to 40% before garbage time with a 30 point lead), and 98 points scored. I’ll go out on a limb here and say we don’t score 98 points and lose very often. As a point of fact, in our entire history when we score 100+ points we win 89% of the time. I will guarantee if we score 98 we might lose, but if we do it’ll be a close game.Robinson was the only dude that could make a 3 for us. We shoot like that as a team against a quality opponent, we are beat.
Well I can guarantee we aren’t going undefeated if that’s what you were thinking. But 75% from 2’s and 35% from 3’s is pretty good, lol .Robinson was the only dude that could make a 3 for us. We shoot like that as a team against a quality opponent, we are beat.
I know +/- seems to be a stat referred to a lot on here. Individually, especially in a one game sample size, it's a pretty bad metric to measure. It's best used, in an individual measure, over a 10+ game sample size. The absolute best way to use +/- is lineup construction.Plus and minus is so interesting to me. Brea and Carr haven’t been much of a factor hitting 3’s so far . Imagine when they start hitting them . And based on their careers, it’s only a matter of time.Brea has been a bit of a disappointment so far. I hope his shooting improves. Perry looks lost ,tentatitjve, might not be ready this year. I'll be interested to see when we face really good/athletic teams. I'm not sure Carr and Williams can play together for long. Carr is really going to struggle defending an athletic 4. Williams or Garrison has to be in to protect the rim. I'm pretty interested to see what Pope's version of a smaller lineup will look like. I think, at times, his hand will be forced to only be able to play one of Garrison, Williams, or Carr. A big part of me thinks Chandler's ability to work his way into the lineup will play a role in all of this. One thing’s for sure… we start our 5 best players.
If we shot 35.15% from 3 for the whole season it would be the 22nd best 3 point shooting team in our entire history. And we are pretending it’s a bad shooting night? If it is, and most nights we shoot better, then we definitely aren’t getting beat much.Well I can guarantee we aren’t going undefeated if that’s what you were thinking. But 75% from 2’s and 35% from 3’s is pretty good, lol .
You better hope he's not the best player, but he's definitely the straw that stirs the drink. If Lamont Butler is the THE BEST player on this team, .500 might not be a realistic goal. He's just not that type of player. But he's a guy you need if you're going to be really good.Butler is the best player on the team IMO. Dude is incredible
Depends. Best vs Most Valuable. You better hope he's not the best player, but he's definitely the straw that stirs the drink. Idk man, I'm worried a team where Jaxson Robinson is the best player is going to struggle. Lamont Butler can't really be either, IMHO. Is he valuable? Duh, of course. I just think the ceiling is low where he's either of those things. Thankfully, with this group, I think the sum of the parts is the real value. 1-8 they seem solid, which is where most of my hope lies. I think a fair starting point is where most have us, top 25ish and a 4-6 seed. If the sum of the parts is in fact very solid, I think the ceiling is quite a bit higher than that.Depends. Best vs Most Valuable.
If we are a top 25ish 4/6 seed in tournament I will be very happy considering what CMP walked into .Idk man, I'm worried a team where Jaxson Robinson is the best player is going to struggle. I think maybe it's taking some guys some time to get adjusted to the speed we play. Those two are just as good if not better shooters than Robinson but he's way over performing them. The difference is Robinson is used to playing fast. I'm hoping that some of our guys will get more used to the game speed and the shots will start falling then.Brea and Carr haven’t been much of a factor hitting 3’s so far .
