Like or hate him, Dan Hurley is good coach, as long as he is in Uconn, Uconn will always be in good position to chase championship

The word is they are going after Bill Self. Everything is corporate tie-ins these days, and "Hair Club For Men" is a big Knicks sponsor...
Hurley is a terrific college coach but not sure how NBA players would take to him.
I actually think Dan Hurley might look into this job. He’s an East Coast guy, so I don’t think Connecticut is the reason why he’s wanting to stay in that area. It just so happens to be an East Coast school so he’s happy there. If he’s truly interested in going the pro route, the Knicks would be the perfect opportunity for him. If it doesn’t work out in the pros. He can just wait for the St. John’s Job to open up when Patino retires. I would say there’s a decent chance that if the Knicks want him. He may actually pull the trigger and do it.

How dumb? They allowed him to build a roster that fits his defense first mindset. They will most likely need a new roster with most coaches the way the game is currently played.

It'll probably be Mike Malone. Former Knicks assistant and Queens native. But they hated how he developed and utilized his bench in Denver and the main gripe on Thibs is how he plays his starters 40+ minute a game. The Knicks bench isn't good and KAT and Brunson got cooked on defense against the Pacers. I don't see anyone doing much better than Thibs.

Golden is a west coast guy (from Phoenix) and his wife is from Texas. I can see Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas or Houston, so grandparents can see their grandkids grow up. Just a thought …

When we were supposedly courting him, word was the Knicks was his dream job and that he was essentially holding out for it. Will be interesting to see if they go after him now.
The superstars (Brunson and Towns) let this team down, not Thibs. Frankly, I was very disappointed in KAT’s lack of effort and would get whatever I could on trade for him right now.
As a Knicks fan, I would reach out to Nate Oats, he’s an NBA coach, IMO, not Hurley or Golden.

Knicks traded 5 picks for Mikal Bridges and traded Randle, the guard from Villanova and another pick for Towns- think 4 or 5 of those first round picks they traded are unprotected- their GM should be fired if anybody is fired
If you're going after Hurley you'll need to include his wife when negotiating.
Yeah I know he's a good coach, but I can't see the owners etc wanting to deal with his lunacy.

Surprising if you only consider that they made the conference finals this year. Not quite as surprising if you already know that Thibodeau has a well established reputation as a guy who can help reset a culture, but also one who eventually wears out his welcome when he runs his team out of gas before getting to a championship because of his over reliance on playing the starters all season long. It’s a bold move coming off a fairly good playoff run, but the Knicks must figure that they now have the culture where they need it and have a chance to bring in someone else to get them over the hump.
Knicks were capped with Thibs, who once again, refused to limit his starter's minutes and grow his bench. I'm not sure if the next guy will be better, but I do know that the Knicks would be in this exact same position next year.. running out of gas in the playoffs against a team like Indiana or Detroit or Atlanta.
I think they should make a run at Hurley. We know he wants to coach in the NBA, it's his dream job on a top3 NBA franchise, gets to stay East Coast, might not even have to really move his family.

I don't think Wright would work either. Coaching and motivating college kids is completely different than doing it with pros. I just can't imagine him having success with the likes of Brunson, Hart, and Bridges.
I'm curious if Golden will get a look. His style seems suited for the NBA and his demeanor is definitely a better fit than Hurley. When his new contract was published it was pointed out there's a lower buyout if he leaves for an NBA job than another college job, which suggests he's interested. And while he's not from New York (Phoenix, AZ per Wikipedia), he's Jewish and lived in NYC for a while before getting into coaching. If the Knicks do have interest in him it could be a similar situation with Hurley last year where the year after a title is a hard time to make a move.

I just get the sense that Jay Wright is more like a Brad Stevens, in that hes beyond coaching at this point. They both got out in their prime, NOT their peak, and they seemed to be fine hanging it up.

Thibs had 17 more postseason wins with the Knicks than their last 13 coaches combined. It’s a bold move Cotton. I think this is the job Hurley was waiting on if they are interested.
I’m sick of KAT being blamed for everything. Stats show that when Brunson sat and KAT was on the court they had the best +- of any combo featuring both of them off or on the court at the same time. It was a large difference too like +10.
They play 2 on 3 or even 3 on 4 sometimes guarding the perimeter, and that puts big men in a no win situation, as we all watched during the 2024 Cats season. We didn’t have world beaters in the post but only AD could clean up our defensive guards mess.
KAT was ALL NBA 3rd team and put up 25/12 a game. It’s hard to replace guys like that in an offensive era. He’s the best shooting big man on the planet right now. The T-Wolves may have played the Thunder way better had they traded Gobert and got back some of their picks they traded for him. But nobody wants him!
