Tom Jurich to Texas?

I heard on one of the talking head radio shows that Mack Brown is getting a big push to be the new AD.

He could do it. Louisville is small potatoes. Even though he owns them (not hard to own commuter schools), would be want a challenge?

I don't know whether Jurich will be offered the Texas AD job or not, and neither does anyone else here. But anyone who doesn't think Jurich would leave Louisville for Texas is really nuts.

If Jurich is offered the job, he will take it. He's done all he can at uvel and he knows it. It's only downhill from here. Pitino only has 4 or 5 years left in him before his transformation into the Crypt Keeper is complete and it's only a matter of time before Petrino either bolts for another job or completely implodes.

People mistakenly believe it would be about money, but it wouldn't be, it would be about prestige. Jurich is as arrogant and conceited an individual as you'll ever meet and he isn't the kind of person to turn down a Mercedes for a Hyundai.

LOL! You are overthinking it. It isn't about Pitino, and it isn't about Louisville. There are lots of arrogant people in the world. It is about the fact that the AD job at Texas is an elite job, and the AD job at Louisville isn't. It's a big upward move for a man who has been padding his resume for this kind of an opportunity for a long time. If he can get offered.

Does he want to give up being the big fish in a little pond? The biggest thing that could have him pack his bags is the shape of football and basketball. Petrino is starting off slow this year and unless his team makes a big turnaround, they look to be headed for a losing season. Basketball doesn't look much better unless you buy into the Pitino talk of having a team full of pros. This could be the worst team he has had in quite a few years at UL. If I were Jurich, I would leave before my two biggest sports dropped off.

It has nothing to do with Pitino or Petrino. Texas is an elite job. Louisville isn't. But until Texas actually offers him the job, the only significance of this story is that Jurich will use it to try for a raise.

I believe that Texas and UL are 1-2 in total income from athletics. Unless the bidding for Jurich's services became psychotic, UL could probably match any Texas offer.
Don't believe everything LilBro says. They are not in the Top10 in total budgets. Texas has twice as much as they do.

According to this link below, UL isn't even in the top 25 and Oregon passed Texas up to take number 1. The other poster must have been just thinking about the basketball money that UL gets from that ridiculous arena contact. I believe that supposedly put them at number 1 in basketball, but not overall near the top of athletic revenues.

Uhh, what?!?
Yeah. Sorry about that. I remembered an article in which income from athletics was the subject and Texas and UL were 1-2. Obviously, my dementia is further advanced than I thought. UL and UK are 1-2 in the state. Don't know where Texas entered my memory.

Really? You say I'm over-thinking it, then proceed to state the exact point I was making with my post?

If you read my post, instead of skimming over it you'd see I stated it wouldn't be about money, it'd be about prestige. He's arrogant and a pompous windbag and a prestigious level AD job will appeal to him far beyond the value of his contract. Which is why uvel could throw a mint at him and I dont think it'd make a bit of difference because Texas is a luxury car while uvel is an affordable mid size.

Not a chance he leaves UL. Jurich knows he runs this town and no other semi-relevant program would allow him to run the program/school/media as he does at UL. Jurich knows it. Other schools know it. The only people who don't are the brainwashed masses throwing up their "L's" and the Louisville media who will spin this to show how UL is a better school than Texas and that Jurich is so #L1C4 that he would turn down control of the Cowboys, Patriots and Packers to be able to wear that old-English "L" on his chest.

You're probably right but I just wonder how much Jurich enjoys improving programs. Texas hasn't been doing it in either sport, basketball or football, so would Jurich like to be the MAN who brings Texas back to the glory days of elite? I agree money won't be an issue for Jurich, he'll get his payday either way but how great would he look if he could pull off a Texas return to prominence.

Please show this link. UL doesn't even make more than Kentucky, much less Texas....
