Tom Heitz funny and sad post

... such a disrespectful comment and totally uncalled for. The man has an opinion that is many times more valid than any of us seeing that he is a former, four-year player.
How about the players that have played here that support Cal? Aren't their opinions equally valid, especially ones that actually played while they were here? There are plenty more of them that are complimentary of Cal than negative.

I would say that all the OADs will support Cal, who were recruited by and played under him ... for the most part but not all. As far as the pre-Cal players go, I believe that what we've heard from Bowie and Heitz recently is closer to the truth and the reason I say this is because they actually do care about the PROGRAM FIRST and Cal's Wholesale OAD experiment has failed. You won't hear many of the players say so publicly because they don't want to create a PR problem for the UK Athletic Department and will also want to maintain good relations with UK for themselves. Cal has become the ugly turd in the punch bowl, and everyone is leaving the party.

First, you have to realize that Bowie and Cal are friends and Bowie made a joke that you people are taking out of context here. Second, so the only players that matter are the ones that weren't good enough to play under Cal and succeed? Wayne Turner was just on the radio a couple weeks ago complimenting Cal. So everyone that criticizes him is correct, but anyone that supports him has an agenda, solely because that supports yours?

Stupid response. People didn't start a thread about my opinion using it to justify their position.
Your response was the stupid one and that’s why they’re making fun of you.

How good someone is or isn’t at something doesn’t give or take away credibility from their argument or position. That’s what they’re trying to impress upon you.

You said he sucks, and implied that makes his opinion invalid. But the people responding to you used your same logic against you. If he sucks, and that means his opinion doesn’t mean anything, then your opinion means even less since he was better than you.

You played yourself and you don’t even realize it. They’re using your logic against you and you can’t even see it. And you’re calling them stupid.

Lmao.

I don’t understand how he tries to compare Rupp to Cal in another thread including considering his age. Makes no sense to me

I only have 4 people blocked........ BBBLazing is one of them because I know they are a troll. I dont believe its coincidence there was a UL fan on their boards like 12 years ago with BBBlazing in their screen name.
That makes sense. I didn’t know that. That’s a rare username for someone to use so odds are that is the same person.

BlahBlahBlazing… shouldn’t you be putting brownies in the oven and laying out Justin’s onesie pajamas for him? How’s business at the Painted Horse?

As opposed to negating someone's opinion of Kentucky basketball because of your estimation of their talent?

How many of the players do you believe are “Cal” guys or actually support the UK program?

If Cal leaves do you think all these billions of dollars of earnings people are going to come back and support the program or even care about Kentucky?

It does seem like anyone at this point that strongly defends Cal would have an agenda.

I understand supporting him and hoping he succeeds, but how can anyone defend the last few years of Kentucky basketball?

When Bob Knight lost it IU was awful and he never won anything again, IU fans held on way too long and it ruined their program.

Heck Bill Belicheck just got fired and I believe he has more super bowls than anyone!

If a coach is done they are done and it’s the detriment to the program the longer they stay. I think that’s what has most fans upset.

However if there is some glowing reason to actually believe things will get back to contending teams year in and year out enlighten us.

The only objection I have with Bowie is if he would have been coming out of high school today instead of the late 70's, he would have 100% been a one and done, and been a part of the problem. I've got no problem with former players criticizing the current state of the program, but Bowie would not have put the program first if OAD culture was alive and well back in 1980.

You got me ... I do have an agenda and it is PROGRAM FIRST. If Cal is damaging the Program, then Cal sucks, to borrow your description. Why would you support a coach that does clearly have an agenda that is wreaking havoc on the Program? Players will always publicly support the Program, as they should. Bowie's comments were made in jest, or were they? Bowie had the entire English language of words from which to choose but those words resonated and rang true with BBN, why? Maybe, cloaked in apparent jest, Bowie's message rang true for those willing to hear. If Cal can't win with that talent, then place the blame where it belongs. Why would your opinion of Tom Heitz success as a player at UK, render his opinion invalid regarding the state of the Program today, just because it differs from yours?

Valid point ... OAD isn't going away. My problem with Cal's version of OAD is having to rebuild the roster every year. He could recruit a few OAD players and use them each year to sustain and support an established roster of quality players who return each year during their 3-4 years stay. The true focus should then be returning players not solely OAD. Whatever the solution is, we have a mess now.

I actually have no problem with OAD for the players that are actually GOOD enough to be true OAD’s. Bowie would have fit into that category like an AD, Wall, Cousins, KAT, etc.
My issue is that we have too many guys bolting after one season that have no business leaving. They end up in the G League Or overseas.
Cal is pushing guys out that that aren’t ready in hopes of getting more players into the league and to make room for his next crop hoping to have a few more he can’t get into the league.

Also UK benefits if we have the elite OAD’s. Cal’s best teams had that type of talent.

Did you coach at UK? Is that the new requirement to criticize someone's performance? You had to have the same position and do it better? Come on. I have plenty of thoughts on Cal's performance that are not positive. I just think that it is week for everyone on this board to hijack every thread with criticizing Cal and then relying on some player from 40 years ago that scored less points in 4 years than most of our freshman score in 1. This board has gotten to where no one can discuss anything without it degenerating in to a "unless you agree that Cal sucks" we are going to attack you thread. I get it, you think Cal sucks. No need to hijack every thread that is trying to discuss player injuries or point spreads or whatever that some people would like to discuss without being bashed for not wanting our coach fired.
It was some of those former player from years ago that made the program great !

I don't agree that he's pushing guys out. But I do agree that we have guys coming in who already have their mind made up that they are a OAD regardless of how they play during the season.

Good to know. Trolls come from the shallow end of the gene pool.

I disagree. I think he does push guys out when they don’t live up to the hype and he sees they may not be his next NBA star.
He has to push them out because he’s already made the promise to the incoming class that they will be starters and he will get them to the NBA after ONE season in Lexington.

But I also agree with you that many come in with themselves and their families thinking it is just a pit stop to the NBA.

That was a joke...
I thought he made a joking comment that he thinks is actually true.
We’ve all said something jokingly to another person but inside we believe it to be true.

Because we all were thinking what Bowie is. The only person that can screw this team up is Cal and he has.

I’ve even said something to my wife that I believe but after she gets mad. I say it was a joke. lol! But it really wasn’t.

All players are loyal more to the coach than the program now. NIL changes everything and the only jersey any players we get are loyal too is green.

We have to hire better mercenaries and have a coach that can win big with them. It's that simple.

Even the local guys are coming due to NIL. They aren't playing for free last I checked. It's a new era and a sad one at that.
