TJ Collett

Not a huge Collett fan yet. He is great in mid week starts, but really struggles against weekend pitching. He is a big guy, who needs to cut down his swing and get better plate discipline. At this rate he looks like a .240-.250 hitter similar to Adam Dunn, just not as talented.

Remember, the young man is basically a freshman and doesn't have even a full year under his belt. He hit 10 dingers early in the year and then got injured and we don't know how much that affected him in SEC play or how long the injury was lingering. He will improve the more quality pitching he sees. If nothing else Guilliams has proven that he can coach hitting. Not sure how we keep him very long, especially as a volunteer assistant.

I agree with you about needed plate discipline. Most free swingers could use a little help there. But before his injury, TJ was 22 of 68 (.324) with 24 RBI and 6 HRs in 17 games against weekend pitching.

After the injury he was 3 of 20 (.150) with 3 RBI and 1 HR in 6 games against weekend pitching, before he was shut down for the season.

When healthy, TJ can hit any day of the week.

IIRC Pompey had a pretty rough year statistically his first year as well.
