It least that's the way I see it. They had the ball at the Saints 15, 4th and 5 and behind by 4 points. Less than 2 minutes left. Instead of trying pick up the first down at the 5 YL with a new set of downs to score a TD and go ahead, they kick a field goal which makes the score 16-15 favor Saints. Not surprisingly the Saints get the ball and burn up the rest of the time and the Tians never get another possession. I know hind sight is always 2020 but dang not giving your team a chance to win is just stupid, almost what I would call cowardly coaching.

I didn't see the game but most time ive seen go for the sure points and then try to on side kick. It's a catch 22 because if you go for it and it gets stuffed you're a idiot. If you kick and don't recover the OS and don't stop them you're a idiot and should've went for it.

You play the probabilities and that is always going for it in that situation. It’s far more likely that you get the five yards in one play than it is an onside kick.

Did they even try an onside kick? Less than two minutes is too little time not to make an extraordinary effort. I agree, 5 yards from the 15 seems like the smartest option.

Why did they even show up if that's how they're going to play the game? That's insanity with a 40 second play clock

Onside kick less than 10% conversion rate. When you only need 5 yards for a first down onside kick is not the answer. (Although it still would have been a better answer than take 3 points and go home.

There was over 2 minutes left and they had all 3 timeouts left and the 2 minute warning.

That said, I 100% agree with op that you have to try to score a TD there. The secondary had proven to be weak against the passing game and that held true on final drive.

Ah, makes a little more sense if they had all that and the 2min warning, but driving 10 yards for a score has to be better odds than anything else. Analytics guys rule the league now, though, so it must not be true

Man....most NFL teams are just like the TItans/Saints game. Cookie cutter football. Can't make a play down the field. Try to run the ball for minimal gains and throw behind the chains for constant punts and barely make 1st downs.

Tannehill is a mess and sucks Levis didn't get to compete the backup job and I hope it is still open and Levis can overtake Malik Willis....who was a walking turnover in preseason. TItans need to turn this team over to another QB. TO not play Tannehill all preseason and let hand him the job based upon the declining QB play he has shown the past 2 years....was more cookie cutter NFL nonsense. There was no need to just hand the job to him....there should have been an open competition for the job this year.
