UK Track and Field Set for Start of Postseason, Hosts SEC Outdoor Championships
Wildcats begin postseason competition with second consecutive home meet
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats track and field team is set to kick off the beginning of postseason competition this week with the start of the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex starting tomorrow morning and concluding Saturday night.
The Wildcats will welcome all 15 participating SEC programs to Lexington this weekend for three full days of championship competition. This marks the first time in 11 years that the University of Kentucky will host the SEC Outdoor Championships, dating back to the 2014 spring season.
Last time out, the Wildcats hosted the Jim Green Invitational on May 2-3 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex, winning a season-high 19 events across the two-day meet in Lexington. The results list for the Jim Green Invite was highlighted by Janet Jepkemboi Amimo adding another broken record to her incredible freshman campaign by breaking the UK women’s 800m record with a 2:01.99 time on day one. The Cats would go on to win 12 events on day two, tying a season high.
At the SEC Indoor Championships in February, Kentucky placed 10th on the women’s side and 12th in College Station, Texas. The Wildcats earned four medals, including Kate Powers winning gold in the women’s weight throw final, Carlie Makarawu and Luke Brown earning silver medals in the men’s 200m and long jump, respectively, and Payton Phillips placing third to claim bronze in the women’s pole vault event.
The SEC Outdoor Championships will begin tomorrow for the Cats at 12 p.m. EST with the start of the women’s heptathlon event and Julia Gunnell competing in the women’s 100m hurdles. Day one will conclude with freshman Anthony Waterman competing in the men’s 400m hurdles at 7:20 p.m. EST.
The full three-day schedule for the Wildcats can be found below.
