Just to take a break from the Florida post mortem:

- Notre Dame is much better than I expected, especially losing their starting QB and RB. Won easily against G Tech was a big surprise

- Is it possible that Alabama is the FOURTH best team in the SEC? Ole Miss, LSU and Georgia are playing lights out. That is incredible if true

- 2nd biggest shock to me last night was Stanford over USC, and easily. Stanford just lost to Northwestern. Will USC ever get back to their glory days?

- Auburn may be the most overrated team in preseason I have ever seen

- Georgia will walk to the SEC East crown, who in the division can beat them over an 8 game schedule in the East?

- Big Ten looks as dreadful as ever. Purdue is just pitiful, Nebraska already with two losses, IU barely wins against stiffs, Penn State loses to Temple, and even Ohio State barely gets by a MAC team. Michigan State is really good, and obviously so is OSU, but beyond that, wow, just really a bad time to be a Big 10 fan these days

- Mark it down, Charlie Strong will not last in Austin. Was getting beat bad by Cal at home before a miracle rally made it close. Did they get caught trying to cheat with a fake injury last night? CS now 7-9 in 16 games and has not even faced the good teams in the Big 12 yet.

- Fournette for Heisman? Boy, I am glad we don't play LSU for a while

- OK, one or two Kentucky notes: Capacity at new CWS has to be last night's attendance of 63,040. I did not see an empty seat and fans got there early and stayed to the end. Was really, really loud at the start of the game. Excited to see what the acoustics are in a real barn burner game like the USC or Miss State game last season.

- Missouri is the biggest game of the Stoops era so far. We can still have a decent season with a loss, and maybe scratch out a 6-6 record, but we cannot have a really good or great season with a loss. Our schedule has been much much tougher than Missouri, but they have beaten us easily three years in a row. We need to end that streak promptly

Not a single Texas Ex alumni, supporter, donor, fan, politician or anyone remotely associated with Longhorn football wanted Charlie Strong. It's not about Charlie who is a fine coach. The Longhorns are still looking for the next Darrell Royal. After Royal retired years ago, three coaches won at levels we can only dream of achieving, but was considered not up to Texas standards. Charlie never had a chance from day one.

In old CWS we had attendance of 72,000 plus on more than one occasion. 71,000 plus several times. This in stadium with 66,650 or so seats for fans. Have we lost nearly 9,000 seats?!!!!!

Not only did Ole Miss whip them, they have more talented players. That is what surprised me so much Saturday night.
