This week is Towles defining moment.

^ Honestly could be. If a change were to be made then it would come during of after this game. EKU next then bye week...

I'll take a good performance and a win though

Not completely true. He never steps up in the pocket and seems to have no feel for pressure. Our D-Line was in UF's backfield all night and their QB kept drives alive. We haven't scored a TD in 6 quarters. Something has to change

He sure stepped up in the pocket and delivered a strIke in the end zone on the first drive. Too bad he hit the receiver in a terrible spot..the hands

This reads to me like "If Towles gets sacked on a play, then he gets a pass on his next two or three poor passes when he has time." Towles did have plays where he had the time and missed badly. The pass to Bone for a TD being a prime example.

He also made some good throws that were dropped. Every QB is gonna make some poor throws. I think this is the most clueless fanbase in the history of football.

You are too personally attached to Towles to give an honest assessment.

We all are pulling for him - but he has been struggling for awhile now.

I totally agree he has been struggling. But the offensive line was horrible Saturday night. Not sure Tom Brady could have done much better.

I just call it like I see it. Towles has had a disappointing start, but Saturday wasn't on him.

And every quarterback is also gonna have some passes dropped. Using drops as an excuse gets old. Tim Couch, Andre Woodson and Jared Lorenzen also saw their passes get dropped, but they consistently did enough good things in between those occasional drops to convince us all that they were good QBs. Unfortunately Patrick has not been doing that. And, yeah, maybe every QB occasionally makes poor throws, but they don't all make poor throws as frequently as Patrick has been doing it.

We all hope he turns it around, but we're not the ones allowing our bias to cloud our judgment here, you are. The fact is for what seems like at least 8 or 9 straight games Towles has not looked how an SEC starting QB is supposed to look. Hopefully that changes starting this week, but it still is what it is. If you can't admit it that's on you.

Dawson himself said Towles had 5 or 6 chances to make a game changing play but didn't .

The way fans come up with these "defining" theories get a bit silly.

Hell, I think this is around the 4th or 5th game in the last couple years where I've seen fans proclaiming this week will be Towles defining game. Hell, just last week I recall hearing people make statements like that about the Florida game. Well, that didn't work out so .....nevermind, we really meant this week.... And if this week doesn't pan out I'm sure he'll have other games our fans proclaim as the defining one in the future.
Yep and i bet there are Towles fans out there with there long curly fake wigs on mad as hell about your post...[roll]

No it wasn't all on him...Had he had better protection we win that game.

In terms of the QB situation, Towles play is more important than the win. He can play well, and we still lose. This would solidify his spot. Last season, Towles had a terrific game against UF but we still lost.
Disagree for this game. Mizz wont score a lot of points...and towles cant play great unless we do...if we lose, it's cause we couldn't score, meaning towles did not olay well.

Towles performance is Jekyll/Hyde to be sure, but it's directly tied to the WR and o-line performance.....which has also been up/down/sideways. It is entirely possible that Towles plays well, but Baker drops another TD.....or lets the ball deflect off his hands for another pick-6. It is entirely possible that Baker plays his guts out and Towles flops. It's entirely possible that Towles and Baker play well, but the o-line stinks. This isn't "all about Towles."

Is it a "offense defining moment?".....ok, I'll partake in the conversation. But whether it is Towles or Baker, the offense woes are well past the QB position.
Post of the day, IMO. While I'm not sold on Towles we have to realize there ARE other factors that are in play here. As you said, the o-line has sucked, and sucked badly, and the WR's HAVE to make plays.

We simply cannot continue to hope our defense wins the games for us; the entire offense must step up their collective game.

Mizzou is NOT the defining game on our schedule. They are the next team we play. I don't expect Pat to play better or worse than last season to now. He is a great young man in the classroom, as a representative of UK and has worked diligently to be the best he can be. He is a drop back passer with a great deal of talent. He is not a multiple threat Air Raid quarterback. That said let us all wish him the best Saturday night.

This is how I see it. This is no longer about talent and skill it's about mental stability. This week we will know what Towles is really made of. He now has real pressure on him, UK is favored to over a top 25 team for the first time in ages...I think he either comes out gang busters, throws for over 250+ yards and 2+TD's...or a continuation of last week. I don't see any middle ground at all. He either rises to the occasion, or crumbles under the pressure.

I really hope it all just clicks this week, Barker plays in a blowout against EKU and we sail off into the sunset.

At the same time Stoops has to know the situation and have the guts to make a change if the latter happens. Mizzou is probably the defining game of the Stoops Era to date. The coach and the QB need to rise to the occasion in one way or another.
Is this according to Stoops, or you...?

Many are ignorant, but it's as much agenda driven as anything. We are 2 and 1. We have a great shot of winning Saturday. I suspect they will permit Towles to use his athletic ability a lot more and the offense will flourish. We will go into Auburn at 4-1 and the "Ferguson Logic" will continue to flow on this Board. They'll be calling for a new QB and we will be 4-1 with two SEC wins over team other than Vanderbilt. Go figure.

I hope he succeeds, I have always thought he would be a good quarterback, look how long it took Andre Woodson. Having said that the receivers and the O-line need to step it up. I am not taking up for him. He has got to start hitting those open receivers, he had plenty of chances last week. Even Coach Stoops said in the post game he needs to play better and to the OP point if there is going to be a change the next game against EKU would be a perfect place for it.

Keep it warm till Miss St, UT and Georgia line up.

I think he still is missing open receivers and telegraphing his pass.

1st Q
11:25 Should threw to screen man with 3vs2 blocking in front of him.
10:20 3rd and 9 Baker was more wide open on the right - still locked into one receiver.

2nd Q
10:50 Conrad makes an outstanding leaping catch over a 6'3 LB coverage. Locked on him the whole way while receiver to his left was open on a curl.
8:10 Good pass protection, checks down to Boom while receiver came open on left curl.

I think his strongest point this game was his mobility to make plays.

This is absolutely hilarious. Joe Montana in his prime couldn't have played a better game last night. It's beyond my realm of thinking, that someone would try to pick that performance apart. Laughable really.

It's actually ok to lock onto a receiver once in awhile if you feel like your man is going to beat the coverage. QBs don't just have their head on a swivel going back and forth looking for open guys constantly.

Towles played a brilliant game and you can Monday morning QB any game and find throws that a QB maybe missed. The fact that you sit there and write down the throws he misses instead of being happy for the win makes me question your fanhood.

Once in a while not most of the time.
Didn't he throw up one in the endzone that should had been a pick?
Who would you have thrown to here?

Happy for the win. Towles ability to make plays with his feet was very helpful to secure the win.
I think he has all the physical gifts but needs to develop the other areas to be great.

Did you seriously pick out 4 plays that YOU thought he should have thrown to someone else?

How do you know they were not working an ISO on a defender because they thought they had the advantage?

I am sorry man, FOUR plays??? Not to mention the kid had a Heisman like game.

FOUR plays? I would love to be in the room with you telling this to a bunch of Offensive Coordinators and former pro QB's, you would be laughed into the fetal position.

FOUR plays, even in a mediocre game, do you know how many times EVERY qb misses an open man EVERY game?

FOUR plays? You might want to stick to XBox because this analysis is embarrassing.

Wow.

Agreed. It's ludicrous to pick out a couple of plays on tape from your mom's basement when Patrick is having to make split second decisions on the football field in real time. [eyeroll]

This example proves your lack of football knowledge.

And I mean no disrespect but you put your self out there man.

This is a TWO step fly ISO on man coverage with your fast and tall receiver.

This is not a drop back in the pocket peruse the field play.

He threw the ball within ONE second.

EVERY FOOTBALL TEAM HAS THIS PLAY - PRO, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL - EVERY QB LOOKS RIGHT AT THAT RECEIVER FROM THE SNAP AND TOSSES IT.

BTW it was a 26 yard gain. Geez.

Time for some football 101 for you dude. Here it is:

1st Q
11:25 Should threw to screen man with 3vs2 blocking in front of him.

Wow, this is horrible.

Your "screen man" was a decoy genius. We had FOUR receivers on that side.

This left our lone wr on the opposite side in 1 on 1 coverage with 8 yard cushion.

ONE step drop quick stick pattern to that wr. Again it was a quick pass.

The play was a decoy, you fell for it.

10:20 3rd and 9 Baker was more wide open on the right - still locked into one receiver.

Really???? Baker looks absolutely covered when PT throws this. AND he is cutting across the middle with another defender underneath him sitting on top of Conrad!!!

PT makes a quick decision, which is a major complaint on this board, AND chooses the perfect target: The wr on the left hash has inside position cutting to the sideline. PT puts it outside so only wr or incomplete pass are options.

2nd Q
10:50 Conrad makes an outstanding leaping catch over a 6'3 LB coverage. Locked on him the whole way while receiver to his left was open on a curl.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS??????

Conrad had his man beat (a lber) by TWO steps.

Jessie Palmer quote "And an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT PASS by Towles"

HUGE PICKUP - great throw/great catch.

Screen%20Shot%202015-09-27%20at%208.46.10%20PM_zpspqymsy1d.png

8:10 Good pass protection, checks down to Boom while receiver came open on left curl.

I thought might get one of these correct...but again NO.

PT was in the pocket 4+ seconds started left and looked at ALL receivers. Your "curl" was not open until PT was getting rid of the ball.

Musberger quote "That is something we didn't see last week PT going through progressions."

You tell me, after >4 seconds in the pocket who would you throw to?

Boom wide open in the flat?

I really almost took your word for it, but EVERY play you chose was absolutely wrong.

Absolutely one of the biggest FAILS I have seen here. You owe PT and the readers an apology.

I have been reading your message board all week and noticed the discussion about Towles. I know one game cannot make one an all american, but folks he played very well in my opinion. He showed so much more than our guy. Good luck the rest of the way and for sure crush the Vols. One other thing, nice job on stadium redo.
