This was called a foul on Oregon

The call was wrong, but I can see how the ref called it. He was positioned behind Jackson. All he saw was the Oregon player sliding under Jackson. He couldn't see how both the Oregon player and Jackson both turned away from contact. From his perspective, it had to look like a defender undercutting a guy on a fast break. Bad break for UofO

You can see how that was called???

That was a bad call but, to be honest, Oregon isn't playing very well. Can't make a shot for nothing. 2/14 from 3 just in the 2nd half. Turnovers galore and can't stop UNC inside. Yet, they are within striking distance which tells me UNC isn't great either. 1st game was much better tonight.

And Kennedy Meeks won't have his way with Gonzaga's bigs either.

Seriously????? I honestly didn't know refs were supposed to guess when a foul happens.

Your comment is exactly why I think officiating is fn horrible in college basketball. If you are not in position to see that there was actually contact, then don't fn call a foul. This happens several times a game and it pisses me off.

The worst part about it is that the "trail" official is the one who called it. The "Lead" official is right on top of the play in perfect position and passes on it, for obvious reasons. Yet, the Trail is the furthest away from the play and has a whistle? I just don't get that at all.

There is a saying in officiating, if you're going to go fishing (in another official's primary), you better catch a whale. That wasn't a whale. Or even a minnow. Your partner passed on the play for a reason. Trust your partner!

Even with that call, these officials did 100x better than the officials we had for our game.

If he is out of position he shouldn't call it. If a ref uses what they think and not what they actually see then they are incompetent.

Wow. A foul? I wish I could say un-effing-believable... but it's UNCheat's 3rd game in a row with that kind of BS.

He has no business making that call though, he's the trailing ref and doesnt have proper angle to call that.

UNCheat has gotten the benefit of egregiously bad calls for 3 straight games now. Arky should have put them out. There is no point in watching this game anymore.

It's a fast break. They're all trailing refs.

I do feel all of your frustration with "expected contact". But also I recognize that basketball is probably the most difficult sport to officiate. Very fast action with razor thin differences between foul and no foul. If Jackson floats 3-4 inches closer to the basket, that's going to be a foul. And players cutting towards the basket nearly always get the benefit of the doubt. Fans of a team that had the Harrison twins should be well aware of that.

Deaaron Fox apparently not. But yes I understand what you are saying. Overall tho, my frustration has been knick knack on ball fouls called out top and nore contact allowed in the paint. I dont get why they allow more contact inside, ate they assuming based on the size of players. Also the off ball fouls that don't affect play...it benefits no one, ppl aren't interested in seeing players on the bench if they don't have to be, yet they put all this focus in things away from the ball like they are coming out to see how much of it they can find, rather than if it disrupted flow and play.

So you think since the ref was not in position to make the call, it was ok to call something he didn't see? The NCAA has determined these officials are the best they have. That says a lot about the quality of their officials. It's no wonder the Arkansas State Legislature passed a resolution demanding better training for officials. The officiating in this tournament has been pitiful.
