This Team's Offense Is Like Watching AAU Ball

I think this team has more talent than the 2011 team. Plus, we know Ulis and Murray are better shooters than they have shown thus far. We just have to get them some good looks.
Skal has to be more physical or be moved to a position where he can play facing the basket to take advantage of his jump shot. The most disappointing thing to me is our team defense. How many layups did we give up to EKU? Unless the defense improves it will really be exposed by the better teams coming up on our schedule.

Fair enough. So I take it you did expect more from them at this point.

Its amazing to watch you just refuse to give in to any notion that this team might not be what we thought. Greenburg and Jay Williams both discussed big concerns about this team last night after the game, yet according to you, fans on here who express some of the very same concerns don't know what they are talking about. Wow man, a 21 point win over a team that lost their 3 top scorers from a year ago.

Nevermind man, your're right. We kicked EKU's ass therefore we are awesome and this team will win it all.

Don't confuse what I actually wrote with what you hoped I wrote for the sake of promoting your tired argument.

I asked if he thought a 21 point win was "barely beating someone". I never wrote that we kicked their ass or even implied that. The truth is that the victory was actually somewhere between a disappointment and a slight improvement. It was neither a beatdown or an example of "barely beating someone."

Try to actually follow what's actually being offered in the discussion, CN. You're usually better than that.

No matter who we are playing KWilt, it still looks awful. You saw what it got us at UCLA. And our defense, nevermind.

At this time, if we lose Lee, Skal, or Alex in a game early by injury. And if Ulis plays another game without practicing for a week, we will probably look awful again. But if we get healthy and stay healthy, I believe we will look more like the team that beat Duke not the one who got beat by UCLA.

Single digit lead at that time in the game wise ass. 21 points is "barely" winning vs the likes of EKU.

I was just asking you a real question, and you answered it. Everyone has a different standard as a fan. Thanks for taking time to respond to the question.

You apparently have very lofty expectations for this team, and that's perfectly fine. What did you base that on? Last year's performance; the preseason hype of this team; or the tangible actualities associated with the current squad? Maybe this group just isn't going to be as good as we thought, or maybe they will take some time to develop. If either of those options are realistically what we're dealing with, will that be okay?

Side note: the 1996 Cats, a team largely deemed the best ever in the modern era and a team loaded with upperclassmen, beat a terrible 16 seed by 38 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I wonder what the response would have been when some of our fans turned on the television to read the following halftime score:

Kentucky 47
San Jose State 41

I only mention that squad because perspective is a healthy thing when discussing sports. Every team is going to have to some bad performances when it comes to sports, and a team made up of four rotation freshmen might have a fifteen to twenty of them before we start to say, "They're getting it now."

Good post and very good perspective.

AAU ball > college basketball. watching the same 5 set plays over and over and over again is about as boring as it gets.

I'm starting to feel like people really don't know a whole lot about non power conference teams and it leads them to make statements like this.

EKU is ranked 210th in the computer rankings. Is that good? Of course not. But you know what it also isn't? 250, 300..........350th. But they have a decent offense. They are 82nd in adj offensive efficiency. They shot the ball well coming into this game and their defense has done well forcing turnovers.

It's like people lump any non power conference team in with each other.

The line on the game was 24.5 I think. Computers had predicted us winning by 24. This based on our talent level vs their talent level.

So in what world were we supposed to beat this team by more?

If another top team played them, they would be predicted to win around the same margin..........not 50, 40 or even 30.

I agree that most of the game it was closer than the 21 point margin. But it takes time for the talent difference to show some nights. That's why everyone tends to freak out when u see a close game at the half, then most games we end up blowing them out in the end. The end result was a 21 pt win tho.

Hey it's a lot like our football team, when the learning curve isn't high with young players you have to teach it a piece at a time.

I am waiting for a post that says " wait till camp Cal". and then the post wait till "February", then the wait till "March" post. It is the same old wash, rinse, repeat on this board. Fact is the freshmen, other than Briscoe, are playing like freshmen, right now, hopefully we will see a slow steady improvement. The other fact is, this team is not a top 5 team right now. Put the "homerism" aside.

Let's be honest, had UK sank 3 or 4 more wide open threes last night, about half our fans would suddenly have thought to themselves, "Wow, this offense is sure making stride.

Now that narrows it down.......Hit 3 or 4 more 3's = about 40%

Keep to's in single digits.
Focus on defense.........That's sounds like a top 5 team..........but we don't do that yet.
Beating a low mid-major by 20 is not such a big deal:confused:
