First game of the season. This team is still extremely young. We are comprised of mostly freshmen, rs freshmen, and sophs. We will be fine. Calm down.

Guys, we are going bowling. A w is a w. This was a tough team we just took to the woodshed for the first half.
Hit them fine in the first half. Calm down. You have come on here tonight to hate on the team. It's clear that's what is going on here.
I have been trying to believe this for 60 years.
We are going to compete this year. We will enough games to go to a bowl. This team is still a year away from really arriving. Just hang in there. Don't be like those fans that left early.
They probably won't be fine this season, but another year or two and stoops will have them going.
so you are happy with a win. and your perception is that:
You saw that this team is ready to compete in the SEC?
You saw a defense that will be at least average?
You saw a qb that is looks sharp?
hmmmm, OK; I will go with that...I'm over it.

No he didn't. He missed wide open receiver after wide open receiver. And that's why the ULL coach was in the locker room telling his team how much they were still in the game, rather than licking his wounds being down 35. Because he missed so many open receivers, it allowed ULL to get their legs under them, and ultimately our thin defense wore down.
Towles is just not a good QB. He looks the part, but he is wildly inaccurate, and then when things get a little tight, he'll lock in on one receiver and never take his eyes off him.
I'm all for the "a win is a win" mantra, but Towles hasn't looked like a SEC QB since about the 4th or 5th game last year, and we saw nothing tonight to change that analysis.
10-18 219 yds and 2 Tds in the first half. Pretty solid. They made adjustments in the second half and we got lazy. It happens. They're well coached. Most adults knew they wouldn't roll over. 18, 19 and 20 year olds don't think like adults. We got the win. Stayed healthy. We will improve and fix some some things. First game. I watched a lot of football this weekend. We were not the only team to lay an egg.

He has received a boat-load of personal and additional instruction.
Yet,
Against a smaller, less-talented, slower team - while standing in a pristine pocket - he repeatedly badly missed wide-open receivers. It's in vogue now for announcers to say good quarterbacks "throw their receivers open", well, Towles seems to be able to throw open receivers covered.
A moderately accurate qb tonight would have had monster numbers with the time the line gave and the open receivers all over the field, but we got a "W", so some will say Towles had a "great" first half. Wow.
Stoops just said, "Boy, we had some guys open - we just didn't get it to them." I guess he didn't see the "great" first half.

i've said 6-6 or 7-6 for the season. After watching tonight, they will have to scrap and claw to get 6 wins. Vandy is the only sure SEC win.
First game. You guys must be new to this thing. I was an assistant for three years (secondary). First two games of my first season we lost. Never lost again until the state championship. I'm not saying this team will win a championship or that we will go on to win a bunch of games. But we will improve and get better each week. It's a process. Especially when you are young.
The only issue with those stats is how many of those yards were on the outside go routes that will be very tough to throw every other play against an SEC defense?
We were chucking them and ULL didn't adjust until the 2nd half and they were not there.
boy there sure is a lot of doom and gloom on this board. i can't imagine what the TCU boards look like lol. you would think that no team is allowed to have an off night (and still get a win i might add)
We going to go Bowlin and these folks actin like we still the old UK. We just played winning football. That last drive will pay dividends later in the season.
agree. we will go bowling. we just quit at halftime and forgot to tell ULL they were supposed to let us win... that's all. just a case of looking forward to USCjr

ULL has went to 4 straight bowls and won 9 games last year. they are a good squad. you can't just show up and beat them. kentucky had their foot on the gas in the first half. let off at halftime, and when they needed to score, they drove down and scored. got the job done
You are darn right it will. If we do not win tonight this season is a disaster already, and a bowl season is slim to none on paper.
Now on to the shootout in Columbia, where the first team to stop the other will win the game.
They didn't press in the 2nd half and forced Towles to make reads and intermediate throws. Our WR speed was just too fast in the first half when they were pressing and we fortunately connected on 50% of the go routes.
Excellent coaching by ULL to back off and play soft in the second half. If Towles can't start making the intermediate throws beginning next Saturday, it will be a long year. I'm saying that because we're going to have to put up 35-40 to even have a shot at the conference games.
