This ones on Pope..

Also Butler being the only PG we have will tank the season. He isn't talented enough.
He’s talented but he is inconsistent. We need Kerr back but I’m afraid he’s had too much time off and if he goes for a redshirt…. But I get your point. We have no options at PG of butler is having. Bad day. And today he was HORRIBLE.

11 points in the last 8:35 with s lot of bonehead plays and fumblitis

Coach didn’t do well with rotations in second half imo but the players definitely failed to execute down the stretch

Made good second half comeback then went flat again just like the last 8 minutes of the first half

My concern thus far is how frequently the team looks either unprepared, unfocused, lazy, or lacks effort in the first half of so many games.

This is not something I was anticipating to be a problem with a veteran squad.

The fact that it has happened repeatedly under Pope is a red flag. Not sure why it keeps happening, but Pope's inability to have this team amped up to play is a big problem.

If UK would have played the first half like they did the second half, UK wins by double digits.

I’ve already reached the point with this team that I did the last 7 years with Kal where I won’t even watch the game unless it’s a pretty sure win. If we happen to win then I’ll watch a replay. No need to waste my days getting pissed off watching bad basketball and stupid mistakes.

2 straight losses, 4-4 in the last 8 and losing his biggest recruit in the last 2 days that we supposedly lead on forever… the Pope honeymoon is over IMO. I was one that HATED the hire and was probably one of the very last to come around on him. Took getting Lewis and beating Duke/Gonzaga to do that. Now I’m starting to wonder if I was right about him initially.

Love Noah in a close game. He will save us. 😂
You thought he hurt us?

I think he showed pretty good. I like his future.

Just go pull for your team. Don't spend time to troll over here.
1st year coach. Doing fine. Vandy is a tough place to play. Ask top 10 Ut.

We have to start playing better first half. It’s killed us in every loss.

Pope’s Cal like refusal to call a TO in the first half and his weird ass lineups cost us this game.
Its not like a starting big man was out for the game or something. He has to try new lineups because the only 2 players we couldnt deal without was Butler and Carr and one was out and the other is still banged up, If Kriisa wasnt injured, Butler would probably rest a week or 2 himself.

It's concerning to me, as well. This is on Pope. Even without a veteran squad, to start games unprepared to play, is inexcusable.

That's a sobering post. :( No doubt the team would have looked quite different with a different coach, but I wonder if the guys would have played with more effort on both ends than what we've been seeing under Pope of late. Because they CONSISTENTLY play first halves unprepared, I wonder if there is a connection to that and not giving full effort. What about his pre-game messaging is causing this? If his half-time adjustments are so great, why is his pre-game preparation so poor?

It's happening because Pope is too nice. Seriously, he keeps telling them their great and beautiful and awesome when he needs to be real with them. You don't have to rip their asses, but you can't just feed them rose pedals and rainbows the whole time.

He's going to have to take a harder approach with Amari, he has let that dudes bullcrap go on too long now.

I agree, but you can't just sit Oweh and Butler at the same time and put Perry, Chandler and Noah in at the same time. that was a really bad idea

There are plenty of other teams out there to root for,

I’d certainly have better chances of watching my team win a title if I found a new one. But I’ve spent too many years and too much money on UK to flip at this point. I’ll just keep bitching until they put a competent product on the floor.

Popes is a tough spot. He’s got a team that just doesn’t have the physically aggressive mentality it’s going to take to compete in March and it’s hard to teach teach especially when your own demeanor is more cerebral than hard nosed.

Right now he’s trying his best to scheme and X and O his way around it but you can’t do that. But he still has to start focusing on it more and less on the metric stuff and analytical stuff.

A 20% change in aggressiveness and physicality will do twice as much as anything else he can do to help this team. They are experienced enough to figure the rest out but they have to want to fight more if they want to do anything big

At a minimum we have to have Butler, Owen and Williams leading that effort. They are at least built for it, the others just have to try harder
