This is insane. UGA (and Bama) not only get constant 5 star after 5 star….but now get to go shopping off of Sec rosters their best players

Glorified AAU / Travel ball is thjs is.

And I get UK got NC state Qb….but at least he’s have qualified as a grad transfer. But this is outright cherry picking

Our fans are cheapskates who refuse to contribute to NIL collectives? So we will be used as an AAA affiliate and our best talent pillaged soon?

That enough to care about?

The rich aholes can contribute. It isn't the working man fans job.

I dont contribute to any of my sports teams to pay their players salaries and they survive somehow.

College sports, as we knew then, are no more.

Best i can hope is that this crazy wears off in a few years.

It didn’t happen to Ky …yet. We kept Key and Brown.

But man how do you feel if you’re mizzou…you play UGA and your best player is on their team ….along with all the other NFL guys.

The entire premise is ridiculous. We are now seeing super teams at another level in college. Sort of dumb and no sense of competition

Good!

Kids should be able to go to school and play where they want, and hopefully get paid for it as well.

It's ridiculous we would cry about it. It's their lives.

If you can't make it there in the first place then you shouldn't be able to be bought.

At the rate this is going, the money will dry up and this whole thing will come crashing down.
Lol. Why do you think that. Joe millionaire ain’t going away.

Frankly, though, the thread is ironic: we lost no players of note to transfer, finished among the national leaders for
Those incoming, including conference rival Vanderbilt’s best back, and one of the top QB’s in the ACC.

If the rich are getting richer, we must be rich.

The economy sucks and things aren't getting better. They want to tax the rich even more. Pretty soon the rich will stop giving money to these schools and players if this doesn't change. I just can't see people blowing millions on college players like this for very long. It's one thing to donate a few million to the school occasionally. It's another to have to pump millions into them yearly to keep buying players. I just don't see it lasting and some major changes will have to take place or college sports as we know it will be dead.

I don't like the portal either, but why should it be for teams who don't recruit very well? But is ok for teams to come in and raid players off those teams that recruit at elite levels? Few teams have benefited from the portal more than UK has, multiple starters, I am sure Nebraska was thrilled when Robindon transferred to UK.

Was WL a grad transfer, what about Wandale, or the CB and OL from LSU?
In the last 3 years, UGA has taken 5 kids from the portal including these 2, one of the lowest numbers in the SEC. May take one more in this class. I would be more than good if transfers were still required to sit a year, but that is history. Kirby is not Dabo, he isn't going to intentionally do something to put himself at a competitive disadvantage.

I knew you’d have input. And I don’t blame Kirby a bit. Nor should we vilify Lincoln Riley for openly buying players or even the spat jimbo and Saban for into on who was buying the most players You were criticizing Tennessee who was said to be openly courting the mizzou Wr …..but you get him and I guess you’re ok with it now?

1. You are 100 percent dead on UK enjoyed Wandale Robinson last year and he was not a grad transfer. I’m pretty sure boss man fat from LSU sat out a year (that was befor me Covid and the immediate transfer policy). And while UK has been more helped by portal them hurt …I could see that easily flipping down the road to hurting UK as we are not a top tier team

2. But the bigger picture this is sort of dumb if you desire true competition. What little parity college had is all our the window now. Ohio st and Bama trying to buy Drake Maye as Qb, etc,,, it’s all just a glorified AAU team of travel all stars

3. Put yourself in mizzou fan shoes. Why even support your team now? You get a decent player and boom a top tier team in your own conference can pluck him at any time..does that sound close to rational from a mizzou fan perspective?

I just think this model would create a world we don’t even need a football program at mizzou, wake forest, Virginia tech, miss st, Ky etc. and you damn sure don’t need a football program at any non sec or big 10 a school

Vanderbilt fans might be saying the same thing about Kentucky. It’s the Wild West nowadays.

No, at the beginning of my post I said I was against the entire portal thing, but it is part of the game now no matter how much I like or dislike it. Now that it is a part of the process it would be irresponsible if a coach didn't use it as a tool to build his roster. UGA didn't contact him until he was in the portal, not Kirby's fault he is a better recruiter than Chumlee.

I never said I wanted parity in college football, you don't either, I want UGA to be the best team and you want UK to be the best team.

Not sure I believe the 5m story, he couldn't win the ACC, why would he win the SEC or Big10. ACC doing a little whining because they didn't get a team in the playoff

How is a Missouri fan any different than a Nebraska fan who had someone swoop in and take their best player, who is quite a bit better than Lovette has been? There is zero difference, but I bet you didn't start a thread about how sorry it was for UK to take him.

At my age I may not live to see it but not to far in the future if you aren't in 1 of those conferences you will be a little above NAIA. I expect each to have 25-30 teams. Not sure UGA will be one of them either, we don't have the cash.

I understand you not wanting UGA to be able to improve their roster with the portal, but it's within the rules and you better be using it. We going to lose quite a few when our season is over, they staying hoping to get a ring. We are probably going to add another transfer, maybe today.

If you get upset when a kid finishes his season at a school and decides he would rather play somewhere else (for whatever reason: money, playing time, etc) you have a problem.

Its really weird grown men would be bothered that a kid wants to transfer to a situation that he obviously feels would be better for himself.

I agree with most of your take snd I never blamed chumlee at Tennessee, Lincoln Riley at usc , jimbo at Texas am nor will i Kirby. These are the rules…then go get your best roster by any means necessary

But here is where i take a huge difference of opinion. It is absurd teams are allows to pony up NIL to pillher kids off of other rosters. And yes Drake Maye for UNC is being courted We should put the one year sit out transfer rule back in place with some caveats (grad transfer fine, if coach leaves then it’s a free year w/o sitting out). This every year free agency is not even a sport. It’s like being a fan of MLB team that has no payroll while Dodgers have 20,30 million players at every spot….it’s pointless to be a fan of MLB if you’re not one of top 10 markets anymore.

If that is the college football you want…/then get ready to fold up 80 percent of programs

According to grumpy, Uga has never done anything even remotely shady.. is ran by saints .. gets hosed every loss.. overcame crap officiating in every win.. boy scouts make up the team..

Don’t worry about it Grumpy, people don’t like change unless they think it benefits them.
For every kid who transfers it creates a new opportunity for another kid to step up. Everyone has to learn how to adapt to the new environment.

I like grumpy. But he’s like most fans. See all the wrong in other programs and none of your own

My point is this system was never perfect by any means….but this cluster is way worse than it used to be.

Sure some kids will get more money but look at the many kids that will get negative impact. And if a high percentage of fanbase say “screw this…pointless to bother caring”. The number of kids will increase exponentially that will have lesser opportunities

You just described most fans of any/every team that ever competed. Grumpy is one of the most levelheaded people on this board. I’m sure he has a bias towards UGA just like most everyone else on this board has bias towards UK.

We not buying players contray to what tOSU writer claimed. Last game we lost Bzma put it on us, officials had nothing to do with it, different story when they beat us in 17. You have evidence of any wrong doing turn us in.

But the discussion K_Time and I are having is about the portal. I don't like it, but it's part of the game just like TV timeouts, don't like them either. But I don't believe gor a minute May was offered 5m, AU saying UK did more than that for Leary, don't believe that either.

There is no difference. The Alabama’s and Georgia’s got the 5 star guys before NIL and they do now during the era of NIL. There has never been parity in college football and there never will. If you aren’t a fan of a traditional power with big boosters, you’re destined to be miserable if you have aspirations of a national championship. College football is a great sport but it just isn’t competitive outside of about 5 programs which diminishes its value a lot. Expanding the playoff will help a little.

How about this

All non grad transfer should sit a year like it always was
Hell, the Cat’s out-of-the-bag.

Given Wan Dale and Levis’s Central roles getting us 10 wins in ‘21, I just feel the “hypocrisy alert” in my belly every time I start to bitch about others.

Heck they don't enforce the rules as they are. There's only supposed to be one transfer with immediate eligibility. Instead, people pop around 2-3 times. There are different things that could be done to improve this but they have to make the guidelines then enforce them. Examples...Only one transfer, and might as well do away with the grad transfer and fold it into this. Again, the schools among themselves could agree to make the scholarship commitments more than one year at a time so there is a reason they can't push people out as soon as they get them in. Shoot, making scholly's 2 years unless you violate school policy or don't meet academic standards and between those two things wouldn't solve it all but would go a long way. The biggest challenge of roster management right now is not having a 'term' that both parties are tied to. So how do you get to something like that before this eventually ends up with unions down the road...which it will.

There is a difference in our getting Robinson. UK didn't outbid Nebraska to take a free agent. I don't even think it was legal at the time. Robinson is from Kentucky, from about 30 minutes from campus, in fact, and had originally committed to UK to begin with. He was not happy with the way he was being used at Nebraska and probably thought it was jeopardizing his NFL prospects. This is a classic example of the type of transfer that existed for decades before NIL. The stuff Ktime is talking about is...different.

Lol, didn't read past first sentience... because it's clear you're delusional when it comes to uga. .

Probably threw a "turn us in if you have evidence" in there somewhere like you told a guy five times who was recruited by uga decades ago and talked Bout what he saw personally. All you did was tell him to turn yall in. Lol, sure.. some random person is going to bring the whole thing down from 20 years ago..

It's like those that say DeShaun is innocent they find him not guilty. When any sane person knows he did some gross shyt... and uga is as dirty as anyone else.. and probably more so right now during the purge seasons where anything goes.

They went to school where they wanted. This is being lured way by money.
How do you know they weren’t lured by money the first time? Also, someone offers you much more money to do the same job you do today, you taking it? If your answer is yes, why is it ok for you but not ok for players?

I stated two facts. I did not take an ethical position nor state my opinion on it.

No there isn't, he signed with another school, spent 2 years there and didn't like his situation and decided to leave, He happened to choose UK as his landing spot. What about WL, the DB and OL from LSU, the kid from AU who wanted to play QB. None of them were from Kentucky, did UK outbid other schools to get them or does UK offer something that attracts kids? Guess what other schools can offer something kids like too. Neither of the guys UGA just signed have had the career to demand a big NIL deal.

What's clear is anyone having success is you think they are cheating. Bringing in grad transfers is legal, when our season is over I bet you will have no problem when UGA has double digit number of players entering the portal.

What I thought about the cheating, East to call someone a cheater. What exactly is UGA doing to be dirty, you seem to know something? Kids coming to UGA couldn't have anything to do with the number of kids UGA is putting in the NFL, that Athens is one of the top college towns in the country, or Kirby be one of the top 2-3 recruiters in the country. No just easier to say UGA is having success because they are dirty. Talk about delusional, UK is in the middle of its most successful stretch in 40 years both on and off the field, is it dirty? I prefer to think Stoops is doing a good job, but going by your logic he is running a dirty program.

I've seen Kentucky's portal rank as high as 5th nationally so I'm not complaining at all about the portal. Between the incoming class and the transfers we're top 20 this year which makes back to back 2 years of top 20 overall talent incoming.

The bigs - UGA, tOSU, Bama are an attractive destination for sure but there are also a lot of highly talented backups on those teams that exit out the portal door and wind up at places like Arkansas & Kentucky. Also IMO it's still harder for them to get a lot of incoming talent because of the high level of position competition at those places. You have to look at the net talent increase or decrease.

If you look around college football it seems to me that there is a lot more parity now than I can ever remember and I think the portal is a big reason for that. IMO the portal is the great equalizer.
