Think we will see more of Mulder?

When has Cal ever not played the better player? A lot of people acting like he has a habit of playing favorites when it's been proven over and over again that he knows better. If Mulder starts looking better in practice, he'll play more. Cal is not gonna make that decision based on a 5 point performance where he only hit one of his four shots. He's getting things ready for the post season, and that might mean dropping a few games. Certain guys are way more likely to step up than others and we'll need them to if we want to do anything in the post season. Guys like Willis and Mulder are very unlikely to be those guys.

Mulder averaged 15.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game on a very deep and talented Vincennes team. He shot the ball at a very effective rate from the field (49% from the field/46% from three/80% from the free throw line) and was named an NJCAA First-Team All-American as a sophomore.

If we get the kind of effort from our bigs we got at LSU I suspect we'll see more of him. That, and foul problems are why Cal gave him more minutes in the LSU game than he had all season. I've heard many coaches say countless times rebounding is mostly about effort, and who wants it the most. At least the young man showed he's willing to put out the effort, and that he wants it. If he does that consistently we UK fans will come to love him regardless of his talent level. In the aftermath of the LSU loss Cal said he go back to the drawing board, and told Issac and Tai if they've rebound and play hard in practice he'll play them. It's going to be interesting to see the substitution patterns come Saturday. Hopefully we'll see a different Lee and Poythress this time around though. This is a road win the Cat's really need to pick up.

First 4 games: 2.25 mpg
Next 5 games: 1.4 mpg
Next 5 games: 5.2 mpg

It wasn't just his 14 minutes against LSU, but even against Arizona State he played 7 minutes. I'm surprised he didn't get any minutes against Ole Miss. That's a big surprise considering the blow out we had.

BTW Skal:
First 4 games: 22 mpg
Next 5 games: 23 mpg
Next 5 games: 14.8 mpg

Someone has mentioned this before, but I like this lineup:

Ulis
Murray
Mulder
Poythress
Lee

I definitely think Mulder will see more time than he had before the LSU game, especially if Briscoe continues his struggles. Have to imagine that Calipari liked his efforts on the boards.

More than likely not, that's just not the way Cal has coached while here...

I know rebounding and defense would suffer but I'd like to see a line up of Ulis, Murray, Mulder, Willis and Skal. Three point shooters everywhere and a lineup where defenses could not sag off and down on Skal creating space for him. When we play Briscoe, Poy and Lee together we are too easy to guard due to their offensive struggles--Indy

That's the 1-4 Id like to see a little more of with the 5 rotating. I dont think rebounding would suffer too much. Willis has always crashed the boards hard in limited minutes and Mulder showed his ability to find the ball last night. Rebounding is a feel and effort thing. I think Skals biggest issue is reading where the ball is going to come off. When he does find himself in position his hands are often too weak to control the board in traffic.

Is this a joke? You really only have to go back to last April to know Ulis should have been in the game at the end.

Cal just said Mulder is now in the three-guard rotation. 'Bout time.

In place of whom? I'm guessing Briscoe. I like a lot of Briscoe's game, but there's no doubt he's hurting the team at times with his outside and FT shooting. The good news is that's a fixable problem. Since Cal is still struggling to find the best LU and rotation for this team it seems it can't hurt to give Mulder a shot. He certainly stepped up against LSU when given a chance, but I'm reluctant to place great expectations on him at this point.

I assume "3 guard rotation" means getting minutes at the 2 and 3 and not that he is replacing one of the starting 3 guards??
