Did you feel the same way when she yelled cuss words at our coach for calling a timeout on senior day so the seniors could have an ovation? For the record, Dawn Staley is awesome.
I didn’t like it but I can respect being that competitive. Something Kobe or MJ would have done.Did you feel the same way when she yelled cuss words at our coach for calling a timeout on senior day so the seniors could have an ovation?
NO.Charleston is the nicest city by far in SC. But it is really getting crowded.
I’ve not thought about the University of South Carolina in a long time.
Columbia is not a dump. I’ve lived here the past 10 years and love it. I wouldn’t live in any other city in the state. Charleston is way too over crowded. Myrtle Beach has been taken over by Yankees and Greenville doesn’t even have palm trees.
I agree with everything else you said, though.
Oh yeah, and sand fleas. Those things suck. They should have been South Carolina's mascot. They are small but numerous and pack a punch for their size.and those fireants are a sombitch...
Columbia is a dump. The kids tailgate in a dirt ball parking lot. The buildings surrounding Williams Brice are from the 80's with no upgrades. Even the exit off 26, the neighborhoods are ghetto. I haven't seen a nice area yet. Maybe the zoo? Go google "best SEC towns" and you'll see USC ranked last or 2nd to last. If you think Columbia is nice, what college town didnt meet expectations?
And yeah, Myrtle is bad. Rednecks and drunk military everywhere. Charleston is awesome. Of course its crowded, its your premiere town.
Blufton is great. Close to some very nice golf courses, Hilton Head, etc. Wouldn’t mind retiring there.Blufton is the best SC town. The proximity of Hilton Head w/o any of the prices (as of five years ago)
Yeah, well, thats over. I used to love Beaufort but there are so many people there. Housing is a serious problem in those areas.Blufton is the best SC town. The proximity of Hilton Head w/o any of the prices (as of five years ago)
Have you been there?Calling a city a dump is different than ranking it on a list of the "best SEC towns". You can be completely correct in your opinion on the gameday experience, etc, but off on the city. Just think of Vanderbilt and Nashville. Also, did you know that the Myrtle Beach metro area is now larger than Lexington. Pretty crazy.
Aiken is very coolI was raised in Aiken. Wonderful horse town near Augusta. Lot of Lexington people have places in Aiken because of the horses.
But in my opinion the best thing going in SC right now is Beaufort. On the coast between Charleston and Savannah. It has been gentrified in the last 15 years or so and it’s great.
If you live in driving distance, you should try it.
Clemson says helloYou're right, they still crammed a full house into Williams Brice to watch UGA beat the crap outta them. The interest is always going to be in football, but what they're known nationally for is womens bb at the moment.
So you’re saying you haven’t been to the SC stadium in many many years. There is no “ dirt ball parking lot.” The fairgrounds parking lot is likely what you were referring to. Maybe you would like to talk about what KY’s stadium was like 8-10 years ago. Trust me and anyone visiting UK, it was a sad SEC venue as far as stadiums and for tailgating. You all made improvements and it’s better now but SC was / is ahead of you facilities wise for sports. No one freak out here….I am not slamming your stadium or your city now. But any UK fan with any objectivity knows your stadium was really lacking not too long ago.Columbia is a dump. The kids tailgate in a dirt ball parking lot. I'd rank Columbia over Gainesville and Starkville for sure.-Columbia is a dump. So many beautiful SC towns, yet they put the school in the worst one.
-USC logo looks like bird droppings and difficult to make out whats going on. The AD was high when he approved that.
-USC colors, garnett and black. How original.
-The premiere sport at USC is womens basketball. I actually dont mind it, its funny.
-Dawn Staley, the womens coach who was losing to UK and yelled "Thats Bull$%it" with 30 seconds left, at Matt Mitchell years ago for calling a timeout on senior day so his seniors could get an ovation.
-Sandstorm is the worst hype song. If you're going to go back 25 years and pick a song, why a cheesy one?
-Gamecock, is there a worse mascot in the SEC? Out of all the cool things South Carolina has, they pick an ugly rooster.
We must be Neighbors!I've had a close affiliation with South Carolina since the mid-80s....and live there presently.
Columbia is not my favorite big town in the state, but not it isn't awful as some would say.
As far as the rest of the SC--
Great beach/golf/vacation state with Charleston, HHI, Myrtle, Pawleys, Beaufort, Kiawah and Edisto as fan favorites. Good lakes for boating and fishing and spaces to hunt. The Piedmont (upstate) has a few nice decent-size towns with Greenville and Spartanburg....Clemson is a pretty college town.
Good industry in the upstate with Spartanburg's tax structure from the 70s (called out explicitly by Dr. Milton Friedman in his "freedom to choose" series) attracting a lot of business including BMW & Michelin NA. Charleston is the industrial heavyweight in the lowcountry with a ton of shipping, car companies and Boeing along side strong tourism....getting very crowded and expensive though. Aiken is pretty nice...they have horse industry presence plus close proximity to Augusta, GA (masters).
Not at the level of NC or VA, but they have solid Big-State-U schools in Clemson and USC and a fair number of noteworthy small colleges such as Citadel, Wofford, Furman, Converse, and College of Charleston (which has a fair number of Lexington kids that matriculate every year).
Bad side: Bugs, humidity, and some of the biggest copperheads I have ever seen. Also their public high school system could be better. A fair amount of poverty exists along the lower Savanah River but I would say eastern KY probably has it worse.
After three decades of moving all the time in the Navy, my wife and I settled in the upstate with several of her family members being USC grads/fans. So, beating the Chickens is an absolute must for me to survive Thanksgiving!
GBB!
I’ve worked a lot in Columbia, I really like the town. Sure it’s not a modern downtown look but I could care less about that. The only complaint I have is their bbq is vinegar base 🍺
I knew it was something very different and a bbq I had never had before. You are 100% right about the acquired taste. I just stuck with seafood after that 🍺Vinegar is mostly associated with North Carolina. South Carolina will serve you mustard based sauce. It’s an acquired taste.

She had hair extensions???I really wish Laura Rutledge would quit wearing those ridiculous hair extensions but show more cleavage 😞🍺
She's not been the same after I made love to her and dumped her. She keeps calling me though, last night she interrupted me while I was at my compulsive liars support groupI really wish Laura Rutledge would quit wearing those ridiculous hair extensions but show more cleavage 😞🍺
