Thiero role

He'll be a great rebounder, but his lack of shooting ability might really hurt! I mean his jumper is really atrocious.
Yeah his jumper did not look good in Canada. Wonder if his bulking up has hurt his shooting ability to some degree. In any event, until his jumper gets better, like to see him just focus on attacking the rim on offense with his bulked up body and just battle for rebounds.

He will play a lot and in 2 or 3 roles. I like his chances to be a positive role player
I don't think we have to worry about him playing hard and being a team first player.
He seems to be the type of kid we have needed for the past couple of years.
Hopefully Cal doesn't forget he is over there on the bench somewhere

He needs to get really good at the corner 3. That’s all. Just perfect it. Then watch all the tape of PJ Tucker that he can get ahold of. The way he is bulking, I swear that looks to me like who they are modeling him after. If you are going to be a 6’5 PF you better be terrifying. But if you are that kind of guy, you’re a freakin nightmare for the opposition. I think we see pretty limited minutes from Adou but he will find the floor in gritty SEC games, he’s perfect for that 10-12 minute role just being a truck out there.

What I can’t wait for is Jr. year Thiero, hope we get to see that. 6’5 245 has adjusted to his added weight, has ~500 minutes of floor experience, retains speed and handles, and I’m telling you that’s a scary f***in college player!! I love what I’ve seen from Adou, he’s the kinda guy who seems like he’s seeing red out there, tunnel vision, at war til the horn sounds.

If he has a big year, some local bakery may start selling a Thiero roll.

Get it? Roll...role?

I'll show myself out...

If he continues to grow, he might have to play multiple positions this year depending on the health of our 3-5 positions.

I got an inside source on the staff that says we're not gonna believe how they're planning to use Thiero this year. The plan is to have Thiero guard the other team's best player the whole game, but the trick is he's just gonna be trying to grope and make out with them all night long. Coach Cal says Thiero is ready to do anything to win. And I for one can't wait.

Best lineup this season may end up being Wagner, Reeves, Edwards, Thiero, and Mitchell, especially if Bradshaw and Onyenso aren’t 100%.

That’s a small team that probably struggles on the boards, but it should be able to spread the floor on offense. Interior defense might be a challenge as well, but we may not have a choice but to go with the small lineup.

If Thiero gets real minutes... I could see him averaging 8-10 rebounds/game. And we would very well need that from him if we do play smaller for large portions of the game. Thiero very well could be looked at as the engine of the team if given the chance to shine. Love that kid.

I’m going to predict that Thiero starts at the 4 for the first game.

I’m still concerned about the injuries to Bradshaw and Onyenso. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if either is available to start the season.

And I’m not counting on Ivisic being ready to start if he does get enrolled. Even if he enrolls, how far behind will he be the rest of the team?

So I’m projecting for the first game:

PG Wagner
SG Reeves
SF Edwards
PF Thiero
C Mitchell

And I’m really hoping we will have at least one of the three 7 footers available off the bench to start the season.

Well....except he got real minutes in Canada (he played nearly 25 mpg in the 4 games) and his best rebounding game was 7. He averaged 5.1 rebounds in the 4 games.

And Thiero was 11-24 45%FG, 0-7 3pt 7-13 FT 53%....and some of those FG were open court layups/dunks. I like Thiero's grit out there but we better have Bradshaw/Mitchell at the PF for those 35 of the 40 minutes in real games.

That's fair! And obviously, maybe I thought a little to highly of his rebounding ability. I agree we need the bigs to actually play. I think we all agree he just needs to be the hustle guy and let the game come to him. Like others have said, hopefully, that jump shot develops a bit.

Thats my feelings about things as well. That lineup is just the best blend of basketball players.

If Mitchell is at the 5, you almost have to play Theiro, or won't get any rebounds and will get abused at the 4.

Thiero was/has been expected to grow since his arrival at UK. I wonder if that has happened? I seem to remember during the Canada trip hearing that he had added 15 to 20 pounds. The roster still lists him at 6'6"

He may start just a handful of games but it will not surprise me if he is top 3 in minutes played, definitely top 5. I get more confident in him by the day. If only he would grow about 2-3 more inches, whoo doggy!
Go Cats!!
