They say KY has 4.4 million population now

Id say more people are indifferent and don't really care than you think.

I'd say about 1.5 million?

I agree with you. I am the only real KY fan in my family. My department at work has 20 people and probably only 4 of us can be labeled as anything more than a casual fan.Just by looking at the people that I am around it is less than one third that I consider real fans.

I think you'll find a higher percentage in the more rural counties. Around the Louisville area, and the surrounding counties, the percentage is lower. A lot of people around those areas are actually from out of state, and bring their team affiliations with them. I can tell you, where I live - there are a ton of UK fans, but we also have a lot of tOSU fans as well as fans of, well, you know

It depends on how you define fans. If you include casual fans I would guess it's somewhere north of 2 million.

Well I have an aunt that claims to be a Kentucky fan. She swears she is. Then one day during my families Christmas get together she was talking trash to her son in law (who is a Louisville fan) all day. When it came time to actually watch the game it turned out she didn't know who John Wall was...

Of those who are sports fans I'd say it's a large majority. In general the majority of the population doesn't follow sports much or one specifically, but in Kentucky I'd guess that a much smaller percentage because so many who don't care about any other sport or team, even UK football love UK basketball.

A bit OT, but a small tidbit. In the 2010 census Kentucky and Colorado were almost exactly the same population. Within a few 100 thousand as I recall. Likely as close as any other two states. What's interesting about that is the Colorado and Denver for the last 25 years have annually been one of if not the fastest growing area's. Yet we've only now caught Kentucky, itself not that populated. Goes to show just how isolated Colorado really was up until the 60's or so. The last part of the original conceived interstate system wasn't fully completed until this century although it opened in '92/3. The 25 or so miles of Glenwood canyon east of Glenwood Springs. One of the world's great engineering and construction marvels.

In Kentucky I would say about 2-2.5 million would choose Kentucky and maybe 300-400K would choose UofL. Add in about 100-150K for the rest of the state and area schools. The rest in the state probably don't care one way or another.

Outside the state there are probably another 500-600K Kentucky fans scattered around the globe. Maybe 30-40K for UofL.

Sam, I have very high IQ in math and have taken your question...applied a couple of doctorate equations from MIT to it, and came up with the actual scientific answer.
4.4 million, minus 43.8% of...
data=RfCSdfNZ0LFPrHSm0ublXdzhdrDFhtmHhN1u-gM,cXU-xRQ0HdBmyvUKfp2ezPYVCoeq5c1do4G_IwHsar27nhQKPb6vAqRQQ0vcSjI9qFxzCSpE-VwWVgEK8T634aC-fO_Ewh3pn2HPfIih53cm6e9j3SK_2eNK2CpvMtbX-vZ8X4w66ChfdoYNyyb02OfZcnCiMGuHZh66X1oPnqfzSlykxp1N1kwXjw9NsDwX9YmtvOyZ8v43Eh0

and you have your answer.

< 500.000........if you can't name the entire roster and their class year, you're not a UK fan.......you just watch a few games, maybe:scream:

Of all those who posted Bkocats is more correct than anyone. You are correct about the rural area's. 90% of rural area people follow UK.
