I think the question before the statement makes a huge difference in what he said, and changes the tone from what the OP is inferring:

And when people make those comments?
“I laugh. There is a significant difference between greed and hunger,” he said. “When you’re greedy, you just want things that you don’t really need. When you’re hungry for things, you kind of need it.”
Reads, to me, that he doesn't think that either team is just stockpiling talent. Both put them to actual use; it's a need for the teams. I don't get the impression that he thinks UK (or Duke for that matter) is being greedy.
