The Cats are in a battle with LSU ..Ala..OM..MS for spots in the standings...for the weekend it is LSU vs Ark..Ala vs Aub..OM vs Ga..MST vs Mizzou and of course UK hosting SC...I guess it is obvious that UK has really put itself between a rock and a hard place by losing series the last two weekends to probably the two worst teams in the league and this weekend it definitely is almost a must that they at least win the series against SC, if not sweep them ,because I expect each one of the teams they are battling with to take their series based on the competition and if they get swept they can probably kiss the ncaa tourney goodbye..

This is going to be interesting in 2014 10 SEC teams made it into the NCAA tournament. Last year only 7 made it in, and in 2013 9 made it in. I think that this year is probably pretty similar to 2013. The ACC and SEC are very strong and they will have the most teams. I think they will both have around 8-9 teams. The Pac 12, Big 12, and Big 10 are all extremely weak. The Big 12 has just 3 teams with an RPI in the top 50, the Big 10 has just 2 inside the top 50 and the Pac 12 has 4 teams within the top 50. The SEC, by comparison, has 10 teams in the top 50, and 8 of those are in the top 25. The ACC has 12 teams within the top 50 and 8 teams in the top 25. So, the committee is going to have to decide to either let in some more smaller teams from the AAC, Colonial, Conference USA, etc., or they will have to give even more bids to SEC teams.

In short, this could be a year where UK isn't necessarily worthy of a bid, but they might luck into one because there aren't a lot of Power 5 conference teams that are deserving of bids. Then again, the committee may have a different theory than I have. I guess we'll see. Take care of business and it won't be an issue.

Just checked the updated RPI rankings, UK is now # 42, they fell 5 spots from last Monday's # 37. Our SOS is now at 32, but that will improve this weekend and next with USC and Ole Miss next weekend. We need to get to a minimum of 33 regular season wins IMO.
I know that will mean going at least 6-5 with the 3 Sec series, and IU and Murray St. in Non-conf games.

That sos means nothing if we don't win some series and the last two wkends were horrible. Just think a couple of weeks ago we were either the only, or one of a couple, that had not lost a series all year, but alas the old GH coached end of the year slump seems to have set in...we shall see starting on Fri.

I just checked the RPI on D1baseball and they have UK listed at #40. I agree with the guy above, our RPI SOS should go way up over the next two weekends as South Carolina and OM are both top 10 RPI teams. Mizzou is a dog at 89, but still think our SOS should go up between now and end of season. At this point, I think our goal should be to take at least 2 of three from both USC and Mizzou and then not get swept in oxford (i.e. go 1-2). That would put us at 16-14 in the SEC and a lock for tourney. Would also help not to lose any more midweek games (no gimme, given that we have struggled in that regard).

This is the meat of the schedule. Ole Miss and USC will be extremely tough to beat. Honestly, I'm just hoping to go 2-4 in those series but I can honestly see back to back sweeps. I hope I'm wrong because I think Cody finally figured out he could pitch. I think teams are starting to figure out Beggs and Brown has had zero run support. Indiana is a tough team to figure out and we have struggled with Murray State the last few years. I really don't like that game because it's a Tuesday night in Murray and then there's a short turnaround for the Mizzou series.
