Alright folks, with Eric Wolford 2.0 officially in place Kentucky's staff is set at least for now. The carousel may still turn and we'll have to wait and see if there's any impact left on Kentucky.
** Liam Coen was on the road checking in on Findlay, Ohio quarterback Ryan Montgomery, one of the nation's top signal callers in the 2025 class. Coen has recruited Montgomery for a long time but right now the sense I get is they are keeping the relationship going. South Carolina and Georgia are a couple of schools he has seen this month. When Kentucky landed successive commitments from Cutter Boley and Stone Saunders my assumption was it was unlikely they would also pull Montgomery. However, Coen still has at least some interest, enough to visit again, and the fact that he's on the road recruiting for UK is noteworthy too.
** QB Matt Zollers picked up an offer recently. Zollers has really blown up and now has offers from UK, UGA, Mich St, Mizzou, Penn St, Pitt, and others. He has taken a bunch of visits to Pitt and Penn State over the years as highly-regarded QB from the state. I've always assumed it's going to be a little tougher to add a second 2025 quarterback just because there are younger guys already on the roster or lined up. But the message will be there's competition everywhere and Coen obviously has a lot of pull with QB recruits. I've heard of interest in another quarterback committed to another school but pausing on mentioning because I'm not sure how far along that might be, it might just be interest. But you see they are surveying the landscape. It would help fix the depth chart longer-term (as long-term as QB depth charts can be!) but really the goal is to produce a deep SEC-caliber bench so you can run a good offense when your starter is out. Something that should happen, but hasn't for a long time.
** Word is that Wolford is going to be off recruiting in Detroit, tomorrow I believe. He is going to once again be recruiting Michigan and Tennessee for Kentucky, which is going to allow Vince Marrow to probably focus even more on Ohio and guys all over he's involved with.
** Wolford and Marrow are going to team up and go check out a bunch of their top OL targets starting this week. The expectation is they will see 3-star Cincinnati OT Raphael Greene on either Thursday or Friday. Also hearing the pair are expected to check on Jake Cook, an emerging OL from Westerville North, where Brian Robinson was for some time. They will also see 2025 OT Tucker Kattus. While Nolan Davenport is listed as a tight end on Rivals, he's a tackle prospect for a number of schools including Kentucky and I'd expect him to get a visit.
Davenport visited Kentucky during the season and they have a great chance with him if they decide to press hard. He really loves Kentucky, and I think it will be interesting to find out how he feels about Wolford coming out of the meeting, and how Wolford feels about him.
Another OL the Cats will likely check on is Jayden Clark from Northmont. He is a guy who has apparently made some strides and could be a guy. Seems like they're keeping that situation warm.
Of course, Wolford has now offered many/most of his top targets from when he was recruiting Alabama. The relationship with Wolford is going to help with those guys but you will see the impact in recruiting for Alabama vs recruiting for Kentucky. I'd imagine the hope is a few of those guys at least keep an open ear.
** Expecting the No. 1 player in the state, Martels Carter Jr, to be at Kentucky for the junior day this weekend. Kentucky is pushing very hard for his commitment. Initially I was unsure of where exactly things stood but everything I'm hearing sounds very good for Kentucky right now and I am logging a FutureCast to UK. Believe he is being recruited as a safety prospect.
Rivals.com ranks Carter the No. 77 overall player in America so if they could get him on board soon along with Saunders it could be the start to a special class.
