The transfer portal should be interesting

Travis Perry could surprise people. Knox and Richmond can play the 2 as well.
None of those guys will be top 3 options for us, and if any of them are, it likely means UK struggles next year. Richmond is a role player defender, ala a younger version of Liggins. Knox is a tweener with an iffy jumper. Perry is going to be solid, but I'm not counting on him in year one.

We need someone like Peterson to reclass.

Our backcourt is going to take a major step back next year if Sheppard goes.

Fland and a bunch of portal guys isn't going to cut it.

While I think Reed returning is a long shot, I think there’s a real chance DJ comes back. I believe if either one of them returns we will be anywhere from solid to extraordinary at the PG position next season.

I'd like to see UK land FAU's Johnell Davis if he doesn't go pro and were to transfer. Terrence Edwards Jr. at James Madison & Ajay Mitchell at UC Santa Barbara are a couple more shooters should they enter the portal that would be worth looking at. Good chance Mitchell goes to the NBA though.

I thought Knox and Richmond are not good shooters. Clarke, Whitney types
I saw Knox hit a 3 in one of his highlight videos. He must be really good.

edit. Only kidding. I'm just musing at the fact that we think all these kids can shoot because they only show 'makes' in the highlight reels :)

I'm excited for our incoming class. Need to add some makers to the guard slots.

Therein lies the rub. It takes a true talent evaluator to separate the wheat from the chaff. Do we have such a person or do we rely on “experts “?

I read that Knox shot about 34-35% from 3pt range in both this past high school season and on the AAU circuit. I know that isn't phenomenal, but that is at least serviceable from the SF position.

Definitely would love to see Reed come back another year. If not, gotta get another deadly 3pt shooter to keep the offense opened up.

Right now I would rather get some guys back and add Peterson and/or Johnson.

The portal to me is how you fill in the holes when you have guys leave early or you miss out on top recruits.

Agree Peterson/johnson should priority one, the portal and guys like reynolds should be to get secondary scorers or in reynolds case another go to guy

I think a lot of UK fans on here are overlooking Travis Perry, he is a very good shooter. Hit the weight room and he will play the 1st year.

Have you paid attention to Knox's numbers ? He shot 37% on EIGHT attempts per game. With better shot selection and NOT attempting eight per game, he will be / is a solid shooter. 6-6 224 pounds also, he can get to the rim and finish thru contact, runs the floor. He is not like Kevin, he has a more complete game and actually a solid defender. Do not sleep on Karter Knox, you will be disappointed. He is better than Kevin at the same point in their games. That is a lazy response, he averaged over 22 per game on very respectable numbers and only getting better. Dillingham had poor shooting %'s, not that he wasn't a good shooter, it was WHAT he shot. You see the transformation of his game in a more controlled setting. NOBODY expected him to come in and shoot over 40%, his shot selection was horrible and he was untamed. Same with Sheppard, he took a lot of very bad shots in high school, and his numbers reflected it.
Reeds high school numbers :
34% on 3.4 attempts per game
33% on 3.7 per game
41% on 5.7 per game
38% on 5.5 per game
career - 37% on 4.5 attempts per game. he got to UK, took better shots, less shots, numbers went up. Same for Karter, he WILL be a solid shooter (already is), he just needs to take better shots, and less of them.

Are you saying Cal can't eye talent ? If that is what you are saying, A LOT of proven players says you are WRONG. Of course it is on purpose.

Karter Knox has been playing confidently and efficiently. However, the big April takeaway is the development in the jump shot. He’s shooting 39.1% (18-46) from 3 in EYBL play. The load is balanced and the release consistent, especially off the catch. Knox is playing aggressively in the passing lanes, turning defense into quick offensive. He is also decisively getting downhill in straight lines and finishing at and above the rim. Overall, Knox has shown noticeable development in his game and he is currently leading the EYBL in scoring at 21.4 points in an efficient manner 55% FG.

Here you go. Per scouting journal at the EYBL.

one more on Knox :

So far this season at Overtime Elite, where he is teammates with Cyril on RWE, Knox is averaging 23.1 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

His 23.1 points per game rank second most in the league only behind South Carolina class of 2025 commit Eli Ellis (33.4 PPG) and North Carolina signee Ian Jackson (23.9 PPG).

Knox and Richmond can’t guard college 2 guards .
Based on what ? According to this scout (you are not one), and the post a couple up, he seems to think he can. As I said in a post yesterday, he can guard the 1-4 position. 6-6 224 pounds and very athletic with quick hands.

"There is a lot of upside defensively. He has great length with quick twitch and explosion. Can switch down a line up and guard fours also the athleticism to run with twos and threes. Will need to continue tightening the mechanics and keeping a consistent motor. Is the younger brother of NBAer Kevin Knox."

So you’re saying Knox at 225 pounds can guard Redd or DJ . Most 2 guards in todays game are fast way to fast for thick small forwards to guard . I don’t need a stupid scout to tell me that . You’re stuck in the 80s .

True. However, our backcourt this season is elite. Arguably the best in the country. In my eyes, they’re the best I’ve seen this season, as a group. I mean, we have two lottery picks coming off the bench. Plus, you could add Edwards to our backcourt total. He’s been on a tear shooting the ball the last 5 or so games.
