The Ringer compares Duke to Team USA

There are some people who believe "depth" is overrated and that you really only need 3 or so great players.

Nobody picks the Warriors because of the guys behind Steph, Durant, Klay, and Draymond, I guess.

So it may have merit.
Fair enough point, but three of those guys can pull up and hit a 3 from anywhere. That changes the dynamic. If dukes trio can do that, yeah they'd be unbeatable. I just don't see that happening and I see them getting zoned a lot.

I know duke will be a very talented team, but can people stop with the crazy comparisons? They are not the warriors or team USA, I can't believe I typed that, but here we are.

It is the usual slobbering over Puke that happens every year about this time. If memory serves, I believe that last year there was lots of talk about 40-0 and we see how that worked out. Puke may be the best team in the country, as of Nov 1. The problem is that the tournament is not until March and almost every team will improve over the year, with UK being much, much better. Puke will not improve. K's teams never do. That is why they will not make the final four. Historically, K has not done well with freshmen and the fact that he has to rely on 3 for 85% of his scoring is not a good sign for the Pukies.

That 15% probably gives the rest of the team too much credit, they won't get to touch the ball all that often.

I'm not starting another Dook thread, but I will just leave this here so you can go ahead and vomit. All this hype is just making it that much sweeter when we beat them game 1 then they flame out in the tourney... Pretty accurate though since we know the original Fab 5 took impermissible benefits.

Pretty sure the guy in Post #10 left it first :joy:

Preseason hype to get some clicks from the Duke fan base. There never seems to be a shortage of bandwagon wussies hooking onto
Coach K’s cheating machine.
It will be evident very soon that this latest class of paid-for primadonnas are nothing more than overhyped media sensations that don’t fit together on the court.
The brotherhood is about to get their ass busted.

Wow! You know you're reading a hack job of an article when the first line says, "He beat Calipari at his own game." Here's the question intelligent readers should be asking from the jump... what does John Calipari have to do with this Duke team? Nothing. Why is he being referenced here? There is only one answer and it has to do with the bias and slant of the writer. So, if you're looking for balance and substance, this article isn't for you. (honestly, I didn't make it very far, it's a Duke love fest) The same guy, in previous seasons, likely would have been taken the opposite point of view, praising the experience and seasoning of the Duke players and the TEAM concept versus the youth, inexperience, and the ME-first approach of the UK players. Alas, that doesn't fit the narrative this time around. I do find it to be comical in some ways.

Whatever Duke's freshmen will be, they sure as hell won't be that Tuesday night. No one has learned that lesson more times than we have. A Big Blue ass-whipping is coming...

Beat me to it @IL Wildcat . From the link:

"Duke has a different kind of superteam this season. Mike Krzyzewski has beaten John Calipari at his own game in recent years, turning the Blue Devils into the premier destination for one-and-done players.

This isn’t the first time in the one-and-done era that three lottery picks have come from one college team. Calipari has done it three times at Kentucky.

Devin Booker was taken at no. 13 overall in 2015 after one season at Kentucky as an overqualified shooting specialist.

The first great team of the one-and-done era (Kentucky with Cousins, John Wall, and Eric Bledsoe) lost in the NCAA tournament to a West Virginia team without any notable NBA players because the Mountaineers sat in a zone and dared the Wildcats to shoot their way out of it.

Zion has to push taller and longer big men out of the paint, and he has to be consistently engaged as the second line of defense. He will get an early test in their season opener on November 6 against all of the size at Kentucky."

I thought this was supposed to be an article about Duke.

They’re really gonna be good next year. likely the best ever.

The fabbest 5? Really premature to think that. They have not even played a meaningful game and being dubbed the dream team. Let’s just see how this plays out. I don’t think it will be a train wreck, but I’m not conceding a title at this time. They are one injury away from being just good. Not wishing anything like that, but UK and Duke both have been hit with the injury bug before. Also foul trouble in the tournament would be a concern. Oh wait it’s Duke scratch the foul trouble.

They look like a team that UK will outwork and out-rebound. I can’t see a 270 lb small forward being able to chase faster players around for long stretches.

"Coach K has had some incredible recruiting classes over the last few seasons. This group could be the best of all of them. The Blue Devils have a chance to be a next-generation hybrid of the Heat and the Warriors at the college level, combining the athleticism of the former with the 3-point shooting ability of the latter. There’s no way to know what Zion, Barrett, and Reddish will become at the next level, but their skill sets fit perfectly with the direction the sport is headed. An NBA team with all three might be the best team in the league in a decade. They have the chance to do something special as teenagers. They might not be on another team with this much talent for a long time."
All this noise about a team that will again fail to make the final four because they couldn't spell defense if you gave them the first four letters; much less play any !!! Plus they are coached by a fake and phony rat faced bastard !!!

Jones will be the key to this team and I think UK fans think very little of Jones. I think that’s a mistake. The kid looks quite good and if he was on last years team would have been an upgrade at the PG position. Duke won’t go undefeated and I even have doubts for a title as everyone should after the UK 38-1 team didn’t win it, but I do believe this Duke team will be better than last year.

Tre Jones is phenomenal. He posted one of the highest efficiency scores in the history of the EYBL. Clear cut number 1 point guard on the circuit.

His A/TO ratio was an absurd 3.47.

LOL....Tre Jones plays for Duke. He’s a bitch and quoting numbers from glorified all-star games is a joke. He doesn’t get near those numbers in college. Also, Duke’s fans as bitches too.
