You pay them a huge salary up front with extensions and buyouts and they are set...so unless they have competitive drive like Saban, Smart and now it seems Heupel you wind up with the Orgerons, Harsins, Mullins and yes Stoops of coaching. ADs should have been more demanding...pay them a smaller base salary then give them incentive clauses in their contracts... some of these guys just don't care enough.

Are you implying Stoops doesn’t care? You can criticize the guy for several things, but i don’t think “not caring” is one of them.

Ok then maybe not driven enough to build a championship program...or competent enough

I knock Coach Big Ten Stoops a lot but he definitely cares. It is a calming fact for me to help me sleep at night. Now if we had CCC running an SEC football program, I would think we’d be in DEEP doo-doo.

1. Stoops cares....he just isn't elite coach...and to be fair...Saban, Smart, etc.. have elite talent that makes their jobs easier
2. If Stoops didn't care....he'd not can Gran and then Scangerello with the quick hook.

IN the end, Stoops is a poor offensive coach...he depends on a good mind with that side of the ball.

You put Chumlee in the same class as Saban/Smart? Really??

He seems to be working in that direction...way more than our boy Stoops is... only an idiot would disagree with that.
Then let's see if Chumlee can get there without making irrational comparisons, typical TN fan's BS. He had a big year in a season where he had an enormous amount of good fortune, that can turn in a heartbeat.

How come no one else has won a championship at Kentucky?

Why hasn’t Tennessee made a final four in basketball.

Life is not a video game. Stoops can have all the drive he wants it’s not going to turn Kentucky into Alabama over night.

Tennessee fans aren't typically anything but fanatical...just stating what Ive seen...I like Heupel and there's not one Kentucky fan that wouldn't crap their pants to have him here...and if they say any different they are fibbing.

So you’re saying that of 131 FBS coaches only 12 of them in the history of the playoff system are competent and the other 119 aren’t or driven enough? Do you see how stupid you sound? Of those 12 like 10 are traditional powerhouses with championships in nearly every decade since the 60s. If I run a business, does it mean I am incompetent because I don’t make as much money as Amazon? This is an absolutely ridiculous take. One could say an incompetent.

You're off base and probably incapable of comprehension so I'll spell it out for you... this board at the beginning of the year talked about how this was going to be OUR year to finally break through...beat Georgia...get to Atlanta...get in the playoffs after the Florida win we were absolutely certain...we sit on this 1st day of 2023 at 7-6...We have an average program 10 years into the Stoops era... Tennessee in year 2 of the Heupel era is on the cusp of contending for future playoff spots. You can call the fat guy Chumlee all day long but he's so passed our fat guy in every way...now ponder on that genius.

You're right ... sadly. I wish it weren't true. I wish Barnhart hadn't given Stoops a salary the "match" Cals. Barnhart has to be fixed before anything changes. Stoops is an SEC head coach with "training wheels", being paid like an elite coach. Ten years in and the program still has dark clouds overhead. The biggest problem Stoops has is that his first name isn't Bob. The reason that Barnhart hired him was because his last name is Stoops.
