I see some people believe that UK can compete with NIL for portal guys but this isn't about that...although I have my concerns.

This is about this coming class of transfers. What is there stopping virtually every eligible player in the country from putting their name in the portal at season's end? Go! Thanks!

Besides PRO or graduation? I think the portal will be loaded..hugely. Why am I wrong in thinking that?

A rule by the unenforcable NCAA such as "eligible for transfer every two years" or something would help. Otherwise, fans are going to stop following their teams.

I agree but there is no such rule, currently, that I'm ware of. It's a free agency..wild, wild west, upcoming. That's why I'm asking....What am I missing here? I think we can "compete" but I don't think we are a rich NIL team.

That will never stand up in court today. Court rulings have brought us to this point.

And over reach by the NCAA caused those rulings.

Now it’s the free market. It will seek its own level

Until the dust settles every player should test his worth on the free market.

Exactly this, which is why I think Pope's personality and his system are good for us, long term and under current NIL rules. Not to mention, we are still UK. Kids will want to play here but ultimately, money talks and ya can't blame the kids for wanting to get what they can under this system. Every coach is recruiting his own players, every day!

It's not going to be easy, friend. Because I'm so against the whole NIL thing and think we ought to just go back to paying under the table in order to try and make this about "college" athletics again, I'm hoping Pope doesn't sell his soul to the NIL devil. I think he's against it, too. A lot more coaches are going to just get out of the business I'm afraid.

If the ncaa would not be able to enforce a 2 year rule, why can’t players transfer to a different team after the first semester then?
