The missing piece: Bamba

Richards is a top ten guy with SKJ, and you can slide Wenyen there and go small. It's fine.

Alexander will have to be in the rotation. He can sub for either Green or Diallo, or Knox for that matter. You have to have a backcourt rotation.

No need for Bamba to win it all.

The second phase of the recruiting cycle turned out beautifully. UK added Vanderbilt, Baker, Knox, and returned Diallo while Duke lost Giles, Kennard, Jackson, Tatum and failed to secure Bamba.

Bamba at Texas hurts no one except Duke, a program that desperately need depth and a real big man instead of the straw scarecrow they have in Bolden.

UK now has the matchup advantages at 4 positions. If SKJ and Gabriel develop, UK becomes the team to beat by next March.

Calipari has to be drooling at the number of possibilities. Alexander, Diallo, and Vanderbilt give him three guys with incredible defense upside. Cal’s never had multiple guys who can defend like Liggins. He might have a handful this season after a few months of development (or on a slightly lesser degree of defensive prowess).

Lol. There were people in 2011-12 saying 'if only Brandon Knight came back.' In 1996 people were saying 'we're going to miss Roderick Rhodes.'

Kentucky fans are never satisfied.

True, and for all the talk of needing rim protection, the ’96 team had very little of it.

On that note, I love the length of Richards, SKJ, Gabriel, Washington, Vanderbilt, Knox, Diallo, and Alexander. UK may not have a guy who averages 3+ blocks next year, but they’ll have multiple guys who will make their opponents’ lives miserable for 40 minutes with positional length at every spot.

Bamba would have been nice, but he was the dessert after the main course. We wanted him, but we didn't necessarily need him. Richards will be a great player and really fits well with the other pieces that we have.

We don't need Bamba. We need players that want to be at UK and play for Cal. I have a feeling that Bamba, talented as he is, would be a distraction. Been hearing talk down here that his Momma influenced his decision to go to UT.

Without thinking about it too much, I can't recall many teams in the past 20 years besides Kentucky in 2012 with a classic rim protector, or with an array of centers better, on paper, than Richards, SKJ and Wynyard.
You mentioned SKJ. I really expect big things from him next year. Last year I referred to him as a bull in a china shop. Next year that bull is going to be vicious.

IMO Bamba went to Texas to get his. Not the kind of attitude Cal likes. I really like our front line next year. Richards will be what everyone hopes for, a multiple year player. And a good one too.
What I'm waiting to see is SKJ. After last year, he will be ready to get on the court for some playing time.

There are several teams I can think of that are better poised for a title run. UK fans should relax and appreciate our roster composition. I wouldn't trade positions with any team in the country. I'd love to see a matchup against Arizona.
