The Big Baller Brand of basketball. I ain't worried. They are 2 of 7 so far offering high schoolers!
i think given time this fails
in the end they are going to allow players to go straight to the pro's
i did read an article that the NCAA should go the hockey route
Straight out of high school has produced some of the best pros of all-time also. The NBA is already chewing kids up and spitting them out as is. Some end up overseas and some just out. Now the G League wants to start stealing away the best players and it's clear the NCAA and League aren't on the same page. The NBA is trying to ruin college BB. They could care less about college BB. The NBA will look at their own league in 10 years or less and see a watered-down version, but they have no vision past right now. College BB is a great proving ground and has produced some of the best Pros of all time.
What is the hockey route?
I've always thought they should go back to the old days where everybody is automatically draft eligible. You can be drafted then go back to school if you want. The Celtics took Bird in the 78 draft, not 79.from what i read a player does not have to declare for the draft
if they get drafted they have 3 weeks to decide if they want to go the pro route or college
it was a little more detailed, i'll try to find the article (going to take some searching)
It has, not near as many that not only played college BB but played 3-4 years back in the day. I'm just curious about how many straight to G league is produced.Straight out of high school has produced some of the best pros of all-time also.
You're absolutely correct. And not to mention the cost of a college education, these days. I have grandkids in college, I'm astonished at the expense. The single biggest life-changing event for me was my college education.NBA in your future or not, kids too often dismiss the college education. Get both if you can, I'd say. Some go on to do even bigger things when they finish sports careers. That's less likely without the bachelor's degree.
The kids need an option if they go undrafted. Especially kids trying to go directly out of high school if they’re allowed to do that. If they go undrafted or don’t like their draft status, they should be able to opt out and go to college. Baseball players can do that.from what i read a player does not have to declare for the draft

If they opt for the G League then they can’t go to Duke or Kansas or any other team we compete against on the court for championships and recruits, so is it really that big of a loss? All the schools recruiting him lose. It just means the players a notch lower move up and become the teams star players. If the G league grows and takes more and more kids, then today’s mid major level players become tomorrow’s blue blood players. It has, not near as many that not only played college BB but played 3-4 years back in the day. The NBA wants to allow kids to go straight from HS to the NBA draft which is fine, but now they also want to steal kids away with the G League also. If they have it there way there wouldn't be any talent left for college BB. For example, did you know that Big Cliff who we were once after has an offer to play in the G League? That they have sought him out. He was ranked in the 40s or 50s.
The way they are doing this with the G League a college could send tons of time and money on a recruit only to see him leave them in the dirt at the last second. Teams are going to build around certain players and if that guy decides to go once almost all the talent is gone for the year you're screwed.
Just as if Clarke would have taken their offer. It is said that he really weighed it and considered it a lot. We went away from some players because we had him so if that changes late almost the entire Top 100 is gone and it's going to cause trouble for teams. I get the HS thing and if this was an option early, but once you decided to go to college that was it, but it's not. The G League s reaching out to layers who have been locked up for months. I just think it's the NBA not giving a dam a bit the college game and it will also hurt the NBA down the road too, but greed blinds them to the long term situation.

If Clarke would have said screw it I'm taking the half a million like Green then it would have hurt us dearly. At this point, there is no replacing a guy like Clarke. We came out on the good end this time, but it could always happen to us like it has others. If they opt for the G League then they can’t go to Duke or Kansas or any other team we compete against on the court for championships and recruits, so is it really that big of a loss? Back when those guys all came out, there was zero recourse for any of the kids who tried that route and failed miserably. Their careers and in some cases lives were ruined. Had there been an option for the ones who went undrafted to opt for college, a few kids lives and careers could have been saved.People act like straight to the pros out of high school is new. Kobe, garnett, lebron....many, many, many others have done it (many more have tried and failed). Cant wrap my mind around the new hoopla. Like Gottlieb said (and I hate him) nobody pays to watch minor league sports and theres no marketing tool that will ever help that
If the NBA is unwatchable I have no clue how college basketball is watchable.College basketball is great. The G league & the NBA suck donkey nuts are utterly unwatchable.
I’m confused by the whole G league drafting kids straight out of HS. Isn’t it the minor league for the NBA? If so, why don’t the NBA rules regarding OAD apply to it as well?
The one and done rule has been around for more than a decade. The league is as talented as it ever has been. College basketball isn’t going anywhere, but without the top talent, it’s gonna become even more niche than it already is.The NBA is already chewing kids up and spitting them out as is. Some end up overseas and some just out. Now the G League wants to start stealing away the best players and it's clear the NCAA and League aren't on the same page. I guess no one read Bradley Beal's quote. If the NBA wants this to work it will.
Sure. Just make the same rules for students on academic scholarships.Play basketball. Get paid. Period. Play basketball. Get paid.
Now how hard is this to understand.
Play basketball. Get paid. Play basketball. Get paid.
This is the time for college to make a change. Scholarship: Three year commitment. Penalty for early termination is full reimbursement due immediately.
Dude.i think given time this fails
in the end they are going to allow players to go straight to the pro's

Because they're all students they should all be treated the same. Or do you think athletes aren't regular students? Why?

Works for me.does that include athletes in both football and basketball need to meet the same standard and scrutiny to get into college?
Works for me.
