The Future is Bright

What a dumb post.

Cal had a returning Patrick Patterson, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins (plus Harris, Stevenson, etc. for depth), he had Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton were already committed here, etc. and had no transfer portal to go up against.

All Cal had to do was bring in 2 guys from his existing recruiting class (Wall & Cousins) and he was just about set.

And he got to face Cornell in the Sweet Sixteen.

Pope had ZERO returning players, was a month behind in the portal, etc., lost our "best player" and backup PG for the year, lost our starting PG and PF for long stretches of the year, etc.

Cal won 4 top-15 games in his first year.

Pope won 8 top-15 games in his first year.

Dumb, reactionary post.
Sad when you consider BCG left the program in much better shape than Cal did. Cal had a great lineup that season, and his inept coaching blew it against WVU. This year, Cal had a loaded Ark team and his great stall ball strategy blew it again. Glad he is gone, I never wanted Cal here to begin with.

Laugh at me all you want but they could have left if they wanted too! Pope didn't and doesn't have that style of recruiting or personality does he?!

Acting like losing to Tennessee for the first time in the tournament by double digits is a success. Gtfo
Can’t you just comment without denigrating other posters?
Exactly when were you with the team this week to know CMP and staff had not prepared a game plan? I will assume you were at your home on the couch instead of at UK helping the staff.
Too many good posters on here to suffer thru your fanatical posts.
Ignore!

I saw when they were down 15 they had a piss poor game plan for a team they beat twice

You really think that given Cal took all his recruits and Pope had a month or so to build this team, that he's a lousy coach? Even Rupp didn't start winning right off the bat if my memory serves. You're not being realistic. Pope took what he could get at the time and we were a top twenty team at full strength. I don't think we got a decent whistle tonight either. That block on Carr was a foul. On replay he had his hand and arm smacked, but no whistle. A few plays like that made it worse, far worse IMO. They were by far the better team today, but the margin was a bit inflated.
The margin was inflated because UT kicked our azz and we had NO DEFENSE, nor did we have much offense, missed layup, poor perimeter shooting and what seemed like a lack hustle/

That was his style tho? You all wanted seniors and experience... This what ya get. 8 top 15 wins doesn't add up to that Elite Eight
I’ll take Pope and 16 over what Arkanass got drug through this year. Was a hell of a ride for his first year. If Cal was here it would have been a miserable year only to flame out again in a 16 with more talent, again.

I thought experience trumped talent?

its not all about game plan. sometimes kids miss shots. the rebounding was bad but if brea and oweh miss shots we weren't gonna win. nothing less nothing more.If you aren't gonna be supportive first year, sweet 16, down to 8/9 healthy players, you aren't really a good fan. After a loss do you think if there is 100 of you its gonna make our fan base look rational. Good thing only a couple of unreasonable morons. You have to give it time.

Uh.. it did. Both Pope and Cal got to Sweet 16, but UK had a more successful season overall with their wins against Duke, Louisville, Florida and Tenn twice. Which team had more talent, Arkansas or UK? This will be the least talented team that Pope ever has at UK, but they gave it everything including their injuries.

Cal made it to the Elite Eight his first year with his style. Make Pope made it to the Sweet Sixteen in his first year with his style. Tonight was unacceptable. No gameplan
Great comparison to Cal's first year. yeah, Because things were definitely even between the first year of Cal and Pope's first year!
Man, this a horrible take and UK is damn lucky to have Pope.
I cannot wait to see the team he will assemble along with his existing signees.
If people can't see what he accomplished this year, I think they are just glass half empty type people.

I'm really proud of this team and as we all know, without the injuries to key players this team would still be playing this year!!

Go Cats!

Did you follow Kentucky basketball during Coach Rupp’s through Tubby Smith’s time?

That's a troll. They're out hot even though Pope took us further with a crippled team then their hero Cal took us with NBA players. We apparently don't have mods that will ban obvious trolls. Doesn't happen on other boards though. Those trolls are removed. This board needs some moderation.

Disagreement is needed but these guys are just here to hate. Never seen this guy before last night but now he's running his mouth about Pope. He is a joke and should be treated as such.

Great start to the Pope era. We are going to get even better players and build on this. We will have more athletic guys to run Pope’s system. By year 3 of Pope we will have Alabama’s athleticism in our system. We couldn’t stay healthy but ran into UT playing out of their mind tonight.
I don't want Alabama's athleticism or offense if it means we play crappy defense like they do.
Dook is working them.
Us and Alabama both need to learn you have to be more balanced in respect to defense.

Lmfao! Yeah, and Cal got out coached by HUGGINS! Cal had the best front court in the country and allowed the team to shoot 30+ 3s! Talk about not having a game plan! Cal should’ve won the title with that team.

I would have felt better if BYU would not have actually won some tournament games after Pope left but that's probably just coincidence.
Pope did well for having to put a whole team together on the fly, but it is actually a new era and NIL and portal makes doing what he did not that crazy. I mean he did have our historic program and NIL money to help him build.

I'm very curious to see how he does in year two. IMO, this will tell us a great deal.
I'm basically holding any real judgement until then.

No. I never said he was a lousy coach! I like Pope, but I think he's in over his head! He and his staff had an abysmal game plan for the game today. I'm wrong on some things but I'm not wrong about that.
So your a basketball savant?
