I have been mostly a CMS supporter. He came in with a plan and executed it well.
His teams played hard. They improved and a good culture was built inside the program. Coaching really needed to improve as we still made dumb mistakes even in the good times.
Directly after NIL, the program began a steady decline in my eyes. I’m interested to know what others believe happened to our program. Where does the blame lie???
I see 2 things that may have contributed.
CMS went through a bad divorce. Shortly after he hired some friends and family inside the coaching circle. He bought a bourbon company. Most of those actions show a move away from his focus of building the program. Did he just stop working so hard?? Maybe??
Barnhart was the last AD to embrace NIL. Stoops publicly stated he had to abandon the program to raise money to pay players and recruit. Our AD has been behind in football his entire tenure. CMS says he loves Kentucky but flirted with A&M probably because of their resources. He was just tired of begging Barnhart to help raise money.
Whatever the cause our program is in a bad way. No one has owned up to what the problems really were. It’s my opinion these 2 issues help create our downfall.
What does everyone else think our steady decline can be attributed to?? Just curious??
We went from owning UL to being blown out. That’s a dramatic change.
