The best pure scorer at Kentucky from the sg spot was the Goose..

Goose was before my time so I don't have good perspective, but Chapman, Delk, and Lamb are in a three way tie in my book.

Goose was our 3, right? Macy + White Lightning and Truman Claytor were the guards

Goose was 'officially' a forward. But he was really just a player. "The Goose Was Golden" is the best UK SI cover ever.

OP, please quit posting. Nobody cares about you're trolling.

Dude is a tad annoying, but how is he trolling? He apparently just likes to talk hoops. He's been posting for years.

It is fashionable thing to say i guess...cant think of anything to say people just insert troll

I'll just simply say this : although I only go back so far (started following UK hoops as a boy - back in the mid seventies), my dad always said it was Louie Dampier.

I can't go against the old timers on that one, I take their word.

But in my lifetime, Delk had as great a shooting touch as anyone I can remember. My UK hero growing up was Macy, but I'd have to give the nod to Delk. Lamb also has an amazingly smooth shooting form. I love his game, too.

Kevin Grevey....pretty damn good

As I recall, it wasn't until the late 1970's that lineups morphed from: G, G, F, F, C

...into PG, SG, SF, PF, C

1975 NCAA runners up starters:

Guards were Mike Flynn (sort of a point guard) and Jimmy Dan Conner

Starting forwards were Kevin Grevey (SF) and Bob Guyette

Rick Robey started at center

Three others rotated in:
Jack Givens, F
Larry Johnson, G
Mike Phillips, C

Best 2 I saw was Delk but I wish we could have had a healthy Derek Anderson all year in 97. Bogans was good too. I wonder how Monk will fit into this discussion after next year....

Ah yeah, no. Givens NEVER played the SG spot. He was always a small forward. He was great there though.

Givens was a SF
Delk best 2G
Delk was by far the more likeable but I think Rex has a pretty good lead on him as a 2G, there's a reason they call it a "3" you know

Edit -- well I thought it was a pretty good lead, looking back at their career shooting pct they're almost identical but Rex is up by a hair

Yeah, but it was usually pretty clear who the point guard was, maybe the forwards were more interchangeable.

Oh he's trolling. He starts these stupid threads and never to be seen from again, until he starts another thread.

Don't remember the specifics but dudes a troll. Maybe someone can chime in with the specifics.

I think he's a Maryland or UNC fan.

How is that trolling? And who cares if he's a Maryland fan? I like him better because of that. I get tired of the hypersensitive myopic homers around here.

Some of you are too sensitive. Not everything is a shot at Kentucky.

The Delk could absolutely fill it up with the best of them. Also Jodi Meeks

The starting lineup for the 1978 NCAA champs:

PG) Macy
SG) Claytor
SF) Givens
PF) Robey
C) Phillips
I would have loved to see that team live. I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Givens - and he's just about a humble a man as you could meet. Wish I'd seen him actually play.

Jack Goose Givens to me was the best pure scorer that I watched play the two guard spot at Kentucky.
Jack Givens was a wing forward. Kyle Macy and Truman Claytor were the guards on that team. It is pointless to try to designate a player as the best pure scorer. What is a pure scorer? Dan Issel scored more points than any other Wildcat. Was Issel less pure?

Dude was on some lousy teams, but Jodie Meeks could fill it up.

And last time I checked, he played for the University of Kentucky not the University of Jodie Meeks.

Dampier was the best three point shooter in ABA history, and would have been in college, if they had had the three ball then. Best in all history is probably good enough to be best in UK history. Maybe...

Givens was indeed a 3. If he'd had NBA-level guard skills, he would've lasted longer in the league than he did. But as a small forward in college... well, he was "golden." [winking]

Derrick Miller was a pure shooting guard as well. Just played on some bad teams.

I wasn't old enough to remember him at UK but I think this conversation starts and stops with Dampier.
As a PG, I go with Dampier.....(He's the only one I have ever talked with....:sunglasses:..)
Just call him the best j shooter period.

P.S. players should prove themselves more than 1 or 2 years to be
considered all -timers at UK.:)
