The Best Ever

PG- Magic by a mile. One of the best of all time regardless of position.

SG- Jordan point blank period.

SF- Wow this a good one. Bird and Lebron are both contenders for best of all time. Take your pick.

PF- Duncan is the most underrated player of all time.

C- Wilt Chamberlain is the only answer. Maybe the best athlete ever regardless of sport.

This w/ Bird at SF are my best starting 5.

Magic… not close
Jordan… not close
Bird… not close
Duncan… pretty easily
Center gets difficult… I didn’t see Wilt or Russell…
As far players I’ve seen… Kareem, Hakeem and Shaq.

I am not going to argue Bird or Lebron, but I will say many of you never witnessed the greatness of Bird or you have forgotten how amazing he was. You can rank them however you like but Bird was a generational talent just like Wilt, Lebron, Kobe, MJ, etc.

The clowns in the nba today couldn’t even guard guys like Magic or Kareem or Worthy or Dr J or Bird. And on my list Dr J boots Jordan to the bench with Lebron.

PG 1.Magic 2.Stockton
SG 1.MJ, 2. Bryant
SF 1.Bird,2 Erving
PF. Barkley, 2.Malone
C. Wilt,2. Kareem

There is zero argument to be made for putting Bird above Lebron, absolutely none.

Lebron dominates Bird in every career achievement.

Lebron has more:

Points
Rebounds
Assists
Steals
Blocks
MVPs
NBA Titles
Finals MVPs
All NBA 1st team Selections
All NBA Selections Overall
All Defensive Teams
Scoring Titles
Assist Titles

There is just absolutely zero debate on this one other than nostalgia. Lebron is a consensus top-2 player of all time IMO, no debate can be made on being the greatest SF ever obviously.
I saw both, LeBron couldn't hold Birds jock

Without Steph the Warriors wouldn’t have won any, that’s a fact. Steph has won without Durant, Durant hasn’t won without Steph.

MJ was 6’6 and Magic was 6’9. Pippen was 6’9. Not hard to see why that happened.. lol

You mean when Andre Iguadala won the Finals MVP instead of Curry?

Or the one where Durant won the Finals MVP instead of Curry?

I honestly think some people just catch Curry highlights at the breakfast table and go "wow.. he's the best ever!".. a lot of those GSW teams were more of a "system" than it was any one player. Even this year, when Curry was injured, GSW still managed to win like half their games.

What we need to do is start putting respect on the owner, organization, culture and staff. They are as big of a reason as any for GSW success. It's a winning culture that has struck fire almost every step of the way (which yes, includes landing Curry as well).

As for why Magic is #1 PG. You watch him and his games and he's the type of Mt Rushmore talent that could play for any team, with anyone, in any era. He's on that level with Lebron, Jordan and Kareem in that regard. Other greats were apart of a system.. these guys were the system.

We will have to agree to disagree! 😊

Magic. Seriously, I know the morning shows have to talk about something and then it spreads to the message boards but seriously if you don't take Magic over Steph then I don't see how you ever watched Magic play. He made everyone around him 10x better and whatever you needed on any given night from any position he could give you.

Haven’t watched a morning show in 5+ years. We will have to agree to disagree! 😊

What about best individual year? For me (I've been watching since the early 80's) it would be Moses Malone, Bird, Magic, Jordan and Kobe or LeBron. The year the 76ers won Malone absolutely destroyed Jabbar. I am too young to have seen pre 1980. I have heard Dr. J's best years were in the ABA in the 70's where not many saw him. I have heard Bill Walton had a great year with Portland the year they won. Russell and Wilt were great but before my time. Isiah Thomas was a great point guard when the Pistons won their titles.

Those records speak more to longevity than superiority.

I love Curry. I agree he's changed the game, though I'm not convinced he's changed it more than anyone in history.

Magic had way higher APG, and significantly higher RPG, SPG, and BPG.

The two are simply completely different types of PG. *Completely* different. One with nearly unlimited range who can hit 30 footers with his eyes closed. The other who can pull down a rebound, take 2 dribbles and throw a perfect no-look bounce pass 75 feet for a layup.
If Curry would have played in the 80’s and 90’s they would have hurt him with the rough play. He wouldn’t have lasted that long without the protection he gets in the sissy NBA now. Just my opinion.

I don't know if they would have hurt him, but all the hand checking and such that was allowed back then definitely would have reduced his ability to get shots off.

Hard to take either over Oscar Robinson. The only man to ever average a triple double.
who is Oscar Robinson?

Magic
MJ
LBJ
Karl Malone
Russell

Anyone who puts Bird over LBJ is just hating LeBron. I've seen both and the only player in NBA history that can even be argued against James as the GOAT is Jordan.

A lot of this is how you define best. Best career stats? Best player in their prime? Best at their "position" (which denotes the quintessential attributes for said position)? Best overall?

All can be different arguments and arrive at different players.

And a lot (most) of how we each define best is actually just our favorites. There's nothing wrong with that either.

PG
Magic Johnson
Oscar Robertson
SG
Michael Jordan
Kobe Bryant
SF
Larry Bird
LeBron James
PF
Karl Malone
Tim Duncan

C
Wilt Chamberlain
Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Magic could literally dominate at all five positions.
Yeah you don't hear of many PGs as a rookie stepping up and playing Center in place of your all world Center and scoring 42 points and leading their team to the title. Insane stuff. Of course he's bigger than Steph but that just hammers the point home even further that Steph is nowhere in Magics league.

All of what you said is true. Also true is when the Warriors faced the Cavs in those championship series, Lebron was clearly the best player on the floor. Durant gave him a run for his money but it was still Lebron that was doing everything he could to try and get his squad the W.
Steph is such a good shooter it gives him a case against Magic. Different era. I'm going with who's game would translate across generations. Magic's stats are better but I think he'd have a harder time now than he did during his time.

I'm also just making a spot for Bird and LeBron and calling them F's. My post, my rules...lol.

PG- Steph
SG- Jordan
F- Bird
F- LeBron
C- Wilt
The game is so open now Magic would average nearly 20 assist a game easy.

I like this kind of chatter. We can all respectfully disagree.

Although I’m guilty of the bickering every now and then, this is how I try to be with everything. Like I tell my friends that are on both sides of the fence politically, people can disagree and still be friends.
