No, man. Keep Zion on your list. You had it right. There was early talk of Zion to Clemson because they were on him a long time while we were focusing on R.J. Barrett, whom Cal wanted real bad because of what he almost single-handedly did to Cal’s U19 Olympic squad. Then when Barrett chose Duke, LOTS of rumors sprung up that Zion was now interested in us since he saw an opportunity to be the man and had actually secretly been interested the whole time. The interest was said to be extremely mutual. “Insiders” got involved and for months, at least here on Rafters, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Zion would come here and we talked ad infinitum about how he was better than RJ anyway. Sure there was always a small “Clemson lock” crowd but nobody took them seriously. Most people said that was over once Cal got involved and who wouldn’t assume that? Back then it hadn’t sunk in with many of us that Cal had come down a little off the peak of his recruiting skills. So, seriously: Clemson vs. Cal at Kentucky with his whole will set on locking down Zion, who reportedly was always interested? Right.
There have been cases where one or two sources were more strident and vocal saying they had inside knowledge that such and such recruit was a lock. But there were few cases where so many types of sources were sure Zion to UK was a done deal and when so many people were on board with it because it made so much sense.

Kennard is an interesting one. To those on the outside, it looked obvious that UK was going to be the choice. It’s 1 of 2 times that I’ve had a legit source (Murray being the other), and he said very early on in his recruitment that Duke would be hard to beat for him.
Yep, Billy “Done Deal” Donovan is the clear cut choice to coach this team. Not once, but twice, our fans we’re totally convinced he was a UK lock.
And both episodes gave us some hilarious message board drama.
