Poythress reminds me so much of Richard Madison the "master blaster" who played for Joe B. 85' -88'. He was a McDonald and Parade All-American. His best production was his Junior year where he averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds. The rest of his career was about half or less than that. That is my point I guess, I dont want to bash Alex, he is what he is. He is a role player that many of us here believe has tremendous potential to be the guy or at the least a consistent guy. But he's not. Really good players want the ball, demand the ball, and fight for the ball.
He was a good kid and never gave Joe B. any problems, but didn't seem to improve. I think he just matured early and reached his peak probably a senior in high school.
I'm inclined to believe that Poythress is going through the same thing. Both Poythress and Madison's potential were out of sight. Occasionally they have a good game, but were few and far apart.
They both had 1 problem in common in that neither was very good at moving without the ball. When you hear comments about them not getting the ball much, moving without the ball is usually the problem.
It hard too figure why they turned out this way. Both was/are good students
