Pretty wild to think but the time elapsed between the '66 National Final to Rupp's final season is the equivalent of 38-1 to now.

There are similarities...

Rupp's worst record (13-13) happened during this time. Cal's worst season plus getting Peacocked during the current time.

Both coaches had several teams make runs to Region Finals only to be upset. It was longest gap in Rupp's career without a FF. Same for Cal while at UK.

Anyway...boring time of the year, was just digging through some stuff and found this interesting.

Winning titles is tough. Rupp, one of the greatest coaches of all time, won 1 title and had 2 total Final Fours in his last 21 years of coaching.
Tell it to the 5 coaches responsible for our 8 titles. Or UNC or UCOnn or duke who have won titles half the time in the last 20 years. It gets tough when the coach loses their edge but at uk a hungry coach will always win titles. Atleast every 5 years if they are hungry. That’s why uk is a 10 year job. This “hard to win titles” is a bunch of garbage. I’ll tell you what’s hard to do. Win only 9 games at UK.

Btw rupp had won enough to put it on cruise the last several years. Cal hasn’t earned squat. Was given a lifetime deal. lol

Coach K won 5 titles in 41 years.
Pitino won 2 titles (1 vacated) in 24 years b/t UK and UL
Dean Smith won 2 titles in 35 years
Roy Williams won 3 titles in 31 years

I could go on and on. Titles are hard to win. Cal has sucked the last 5 years. Both of those things can be true.

1966 was Rupp’s 35th year at Kentucky. 2015 was Calipari’s 6th at Kentucky. So I guess that means Cal has 29 years left in Lexington.

Let’s hope.

Hoping for Cal to come out in an electric wheelchair to coach at 93.

Rupp won 4 titles in 42 year Rick won 1,Tubby won 1, Joe won 1, Cal won 1 how do you get one title in five years should be doable if hungry. This might be the dumbest thing ever on here.

That's ridiculous. Hungry? You don't think every coach is hungry?
It's really hard to do and the only people that don't understand that, don't understand much

The top coach in NCAA history won 5 titles in 42 years. But UK coaches should win 8/9 in that time lol Even though we've won 8 in a hundred years

I'm one of the oldest here probably and have made this uncomfortable point a couple of times. Rupp won 4 titles in over 40 years. Those that joined BBN during Pitino's run or Cal's run were just spoiled. I know coach Rupp won tons of games, but he coached for a long time. It is not as easy or expected as plenty of you act like it is. Maybe in your lifetime, but not in mine. I've enjoyed all of our seasons, especially the runs, but titles have been few and far between.

Maybe offense is like clothes? They say if you hang onto them long enough, they will come back in style. Maybe at 93 Cal's offense would be back in style?

The Issel, Pratt and Casey years came close on the heels of the Runt year. Casey's car accident probably cost UK a title, not to mention the Riley skiing accident was a big factor in the 13-13 year. Rupp closed his career at UK better than Cal has done in the last few seasons.

What happens this season remains to be seen. I don't see Cal being here more than 1 or 2 more years after this season.

"every 5 years" That is delusional. Wow.....

You need remedial math. Rupp retired in March 1972.
1972 minus 1966 = 6 years.
2023 minus 2015 = 8 years

Rupp was 13-13 once (not twice, as you stated) during that time.

Rupp had 3 regional finals in those 6 years.
Cal had 2 (not several) regional finals in those 8 years.

Since the whole premise of this thread is severely flawed, I quit reading.

Or I made a mistake and counted the first two years of Hall under Rupp.

My bad...

Yeah, we didn't like it then, either.

Rupp did not go 13-13 twice.

Pitino actually won 3. He gave one to Tubby.

He technically is only credited with 1, but counting his UL title, he has 2 and Tubby won 1. I don't know why it's so hard for people to give Tubby credit for that championship.

That’s a pretty big list of booboos in your half-baked defense of Cal, especially when YOU started the thread.

Defense of Cal? And it is one mistake, I overlooked Hall's first two years which held the 2nd 13-13 record.

I'm sure you've never made a mistake in your life Curt Henning.

I'm sure this is an 8th account for you...what are your other aliases?

Rupp’s numbers are a bit skewed because he had some very good teams that were not invited to the tournament. Now days they’ll take a half dozen teams out of each conference. There was also a coach on the west coast that had the best teams money could buy and featured a guy named Alcindor and then one named Walton playing alongside numerous all Americans.
