Texas was a 4 1/2 point favorite

Do now we're okay with pisding games away because vegas had us +4.5???

SMMFH. We have some soft ass excuse making fans.

This. It's ok to lose when you play incredibly hard and just come up short. We pissed that game away through poor effort, standing around and watching, and poor basketball IQ. That's NEVER acceptable here.

Texas sucks man. Did you really think that was a good basketball team? They were awful.

If Kaluma played, okay, they're pretty good, but that team is poorly coached and they didn't beat us, we gave them the game.

We were knuckleheads turning the ball over, we had lazy players, we didn't get rebounds, we missed a massive amount of feee throws and we played stupid lineups.

You would have a point if we didn't literally give the game away. We gave this game away by making mistakes and playing lazy.

Damn, is this not UK anymore? Losing games like this is okay now? WTF man.

Well now wait.. if their missing player makes a difference to their ability to win games, then what does that mean for UK missing 3 players?

This is silly. If you want to ignore the metrics, that's on you.. Texas isn't in any way near being a terrible team. I'm pretty sure this was firmly in the Q1 loss category. And they were favored. And its Pope's first year, brand new team, down 3 guys.

Obviously it's frustrating, we should have won. But you're not going to play perfect every single game and win them all. And to pretend Texas is some far inferior team is just nonsense.

hate to break it to all of you but we're most likely losing to Vandy also . sooner you get it through your heads any win without Butler and Robinson will be an astonishing feat for the team, the less the loss will hurt and make you go off the deep end acting like a moron afterwards

The issue is this is not the first loss where we pissed it away. We should've won at Clemson too. And then we just have inexplicable losses to freaking Arkansas and Vandy.

Just even having those back and we're at 20-5 (8-4) in the conference. Just a very frustrating team right now. We can go on the road without our starting PG, beat a T10 team. convincingly and then go on the road to an unranked bottom tier SEC team, and then lose. It's just mind boggling.

So, basically, season's over unless they get healthy. Cool.

Hmm 🤔 who was the one started the thread? Oh I’m sorry know it all it was you.
Hmm 🤔. Do you know how to read ? You damn sure can’t comprehend. I started the thread to state that the sky wasn’t falling. We WERE the underdog and we WERE on the road and we WERE down two major players. Several people want to stick a shiv in the players and Mark Pope’s back. You guys act like this team and coach suck. I said I wanted to win which I want to win every damn game. Your comments pretty much make you a back stabber. No real surprise there.

It is what it is. We need to hope for 2 more games where we shoot 45+ from 3pt range to eek out wins and just make the tournament . If those 2 guys dont get healthy , its just look forward to next year and hope the horse sh*t bad luck of injuries ends with this season.

Yeah I think 90% of this is just that our team is severely undermanned. Down 3 guards means all of our play making, facilitating and ball handling takes a severe hit.

Truthfully, I think we're playing above ourselves right now. I think Pope's system has been making this team look much better than it really is.

It's more just unfortunate to see this all unravel this way. But to say that Texas is trash or that Pope had some awful job at the end.. idk.. I think we're simply ignoring the big issue at hand, and that it's Pope's first year, brand new team, shit ton of injuries.

Losing the game is not surprising.

Losing the game in the manner we did is disappointing. Getting to 10 SEC wins is practically out of the picture. We'll need to sweep the 3 weakest teams left on the schedule and steal a game from Auburn, Mizzou, and/or Bama to reach that total.

Yep. The lack of playmaking will nip ya at some point.

A number of complaints levied towards Pope involve "Why was x guard in the game? He was playing poorly." We are down 3 guards. Who the heck else can we throw out there at the position?

We weren't ever elite. Even while healthy and at our peak, playing at Texas is still going to be a tough game. They aren't slouches. Non-elite teams will fumble around a competitive conference. UT is on the cusp of the 1 seed and they've already piled up 5 losses in conference, for example. There is no respite or game off in the conference this season. Arkansas is labeled as a also-ran terrible, mediocre, no good team this year based on their conference record. Their Kenpom rating is still just a smidge under 40th. They would be a top 4 SEC team in some of Cal's seasons at UK.

The loss is disappointing. A win would have been a tremendous boon. But I feel a bit of consternation in the result is due to some confusion based on the history in the SEC. The "bad" SEC teams are far better than they were in the past.

Oh yeah I love those armchair comments.. we are down to walk on players if we have one more injury. Everything is on the table. And these coaches know what these players can and can't do better than us..

Yeah and I find it baffling why anything thinks Texas is not only not good but "trash". Why? Are people just looking at their SEC record?

We had the game won, we pissed it away. We threw the ball away and gave zero effort to rebound.

You're making excuses for UK pissing the game away to a team that is poorly coached and plays street ball.

I guess we're a mid major program now. Excuses are what we do now. We're the try-hards I guess. WTF man.

That's what I'm saying. If Texas was hitting on all cylinders and just beat us at our best, okay, fine, but the way we lost, was just wrong.

We have fans looking at the vegas line and using that to say this is okay, it's not, this is UK and we just gave the game away due to laziness.

Texas is trash bro, they had 4 SEC wins for a reason. They play street ball and they suck. You're trying to justify this loss. They didn't win the game, we gave it to them.

You can justify it if you want, but this is a bad loss due to a lack of effort.

How much did we lose by ? 4 points? Would have been 7 if not for the last second 3 pointer by Oweh….. for a second I was scared that it was implied we gave away the game to cover the betting odds…

Oweh 3 point shot isn’t reliable yet…so that cannot be it…. Maybe us missing 3 players all with PG responsibility has something to do with the odds and final result?

Just shut up Einstein.

We were 4 1/2 point underdogs playing on the road with arguably two of our three best players out and factually two of those three were needed the most because of the position they play. I hate that we lost but for the morons that think this was like the Triple C losses you really need to follow him and Reed to Arkansas.

Injuries or not, we've been losing these games all season. Defend it if you want, I dont care, but don't tell anyone else how they should feel.

Exactly all im saying as well. Even Pope said he wasn’t making excuses last night. It’s amazing that now we have a coach who doesn’t accept excuses but BBN apparently now does. I’ll stand with Pope on this one.

Yeah, we have too many new fans that don't remember, or know what UK basketball used to be under Pitino and even in the early Cal years.

In 09-15, Cal didn't put up with softness and excuses, that changed after 2015 and the new breed of fans we have are now used to excuses being normal.

I wasn't good with it the last 8+ years of Cal and I'm not good with it now.

And I get injuries happen. But at some point you can’t keep using that crutch. Now if we got blown out last night? Yeah, discombobulated from injuries. We had the lead most of that game. If we replace Pope with Cal last night this board would be livid! Im not mad at Pope. Dude looked PISSED the last few minutes of the game.

Something is just off besides the injuries. We just don’t have guys beyond Butler and Noah and maybe Oweh that aren’t afraid to go AT a team. Williams hasn’t gotten so much better and I love it because I like that dude.

I dunno man. Last night was about the most frustrating way you can lose a game. I know we need to get healthy, but that doesn’t explain some of the other effort issues at times.

Pope is the reason we were in position to win the game, there's no way he gets any blame here.
We had some guys either wilt, or just not put forth effort and that can't happen.

Yeah respect definitely has to be earned and I clearly gave you too much. Have a good one.
How can you expect me to have a ‘good one’ ? UK lost a basketball game they had a chance to win. Did you know Mark Pope has never won an NCAA tournament game and Triple C left and took our players with him. I can’t see us ever winning another basketball game. You and all of your woe is me cronies have finally convinced me that we may never win another game. How dare you to tell me to have a good one.

No sugar coating it, this was a bad way to lose. A slew of missed shots, 15 turnovers to 10 assists, and some really bad decisions that were made by players that should know better. Kinda like we thought it was won with 4 minutes to go and let off.

Agree with Pope: unacceptable to end a game that way.

Love this crew, love Pope…but he knows the job is to win. Period.
