Texas - Arizona St

Football has always been about the chase starting with game one and continuing throughout the season. The idea that the basketball tournament is the only model is exhausting.
Yet d1 college football is the only level of football that hasn’t had a full playoff system til now. Every other ncaa division, naia, high school, pro has had playoffs…but somehow we’ve been given the lamest excuses for d1 over the years why they couldn’t or shouldn’t.

I am all for no byes, if there is meaningful seeding. 4 teams made the most sense to me, despite all the handwringing. But, 8 makes more sense than 12.
12 never made any sense because no one has ever had an argument for a national title shot with 2-3 losses. In fact, outside of 2007, we haven’t had a lone champ with two losses in like 100 years.

12 teams was just to get three loss SEC teams into the playoff. That’s what the goal was no doubt.

Eight always made sense to me because you could’ve used the BCS formula, made the four prestigious bowl games the regional finals and all it did was add two weeks to the season.

There is no need for excuses. I get it. People want the cookie cutter experience. I don’t.

I think what the powers that be and fans hope would be is that over time the fact that different teams can come in and out of it now in a few spots it might grow the breadth of talent now that players can transfer in and out.

Heck of a game. I just wish the obvious targeting call was made. The guy committed two infractions on the play for it to be targeting, but the blue bloods of football come out on the good end again. I could see if it was missed on the field, but it had to be called once it went to the booth.

Definitely did not want to give ASU another chance to win this in regulation. Huge biased call in a key moment. No question they had an outcome in mind

Some posters here are obsessed with gambling on games/brackets. We complain about NIL, but it appears gambling is a bigger threat to the sport, as a sport. It’s also funny that all the posters here who were clearly rooting for ASU did not make any comment about “player safety” when the Texas WR was blindsided by the ASU defender during the ASU interception, even though there was an official review for targeting of that play, as well. Maybe gambling has actually become more important than player safety. 😝

Skattebo is a bad man. ASU had that and let it slip, but they showed they belonged in the playoff. This is why we expanded. Some teams won't be competitive but you don't know who deserves it til they earn it on the field.
He is for sure. I remember watching him last year and thinking who is this dude. He's a football player!

A no star who transferred from a small school to play Div 1 after 2 years at the small school. Now he is Larry Czonka/John Riggins 2.0 and on everyone’s list of stars.

I wonder how many ASU fans complained when he transferred.
