Texas - Arizona St

Skattebo is a bad man. ASU had that and let it slip, but they showed they belonged in the playoff. This is why we expanded. Some teams won't be competitive but you don't know who deserves it til they earn it on the field.

A good game does not prove expansion was a good call. Michigan and OSU was a good game. Does not mean OSU does not belong or that UM does. Giving the underdog a chance can always lead to the underdog winning. That does not mean letting the underdog into the game was justified.

Better than trusting "they eye test" or whatever bs. This isn't some 30 team pro league where everybody plays everybody and you can objectively say who earned it or didn't. At minimum, major conference champs have to get a shot to play for the title.

Its all about money. That's the only reason we had expansion.

The playoff has always resulted n majority blowouts since it started n 2014. I guess we were due for a close game after 5 duds.

Arizona state was the 12 seed based on rankings. They belonged n the playoff but this close game doesn't mean they necessarily deserved a bye. Rules are rules though.

Disagree. We can see that 12 teams did not deserve a chance. Does not take any special gift.

I have no delusions that the $$$$ will reduce the number of teams. But, the seeding needs to be fixed.

Just curious, do you have the same thoughts about March Madness? I'm not saying 68 teams should be in but 4 wasn't enough, imo. Should be 8 or 16 and just have a normal bracket with no byes.

There's a lot more variance in basketball than football. We see crazy upsets all the time. I'd hate if the NCAA tourney went to that few teams

Football has always been about the chase starting with game one and continuing throughout the season. The idea that the basketball tournament is the only model is exhausting.

I’m against any byes at all. Either make it 8 (which is the most obvious and correct answer) or make it 16.

I do not want human bias getting to determine who gets a bye. That’s insane to me. “Even though this team is third in their own conference, let’s give them a bye cause they’re good.”

Conference champ automatically hosts the first round if you go with the 16. If you go with 8, you could do exactly what you’re doing with the bowl games as regionals.

Dream scenario if I were king of college football.
Two conferences, broken into divisions like the NFL (the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, ACC). Completely do away with the cupcake games like Mercer and Charleston Tech. Go with standings to determine playoffs.

Either copy the NFL’s system exactly with 14, where the top seed in each conference gets a bye orrrrr have an eight team playoff with conference champs and the wild cards being the conference runner ups.

True, but no more true than a blowout indicating that a team doesn’t belong. There probably aren’t 12 teams that “deserve “ to be in the playoffs any year. That said, I have zero sympathy for the 13th team. Also, I’m certainly not mad about having more games. I’m also glad that more teams are going into the last couple of games fighting for a spot.
Seems like a good thing to me.

I am all for no byes, if there is meaningful seeding. 4 teams made the most sense to me, despite all the handwringing. But, 8 makes more sense than 12.

Heck of a game. I just wish the obvious targeting call was made. The guy committed two infractions on the play for it to be targeting, but the blue bloods of football come out on the good end again. I could see if it was missed on the field, but it had to be called once it went to the booth.
