Tennessee under NCAA investigation for NIL infractions across multiple sports

Bottom line is, UT is not playing by the same rules as most other SEC schools. The NCAA doesn’t have the manpower to know this stuff is going on at UT. They are receiving complaints from multiple schools. Serious investigations begin just this way, and I would bet this sticks.

Serious question. What exactly could cause a NIL violation?
How about offering $8M to a high school QB as a recruiting incentive? And having a booster fly out to Cali in his private corporate jet to pick him up??

Would that do it??

Exactly. I don't know what the rules are to be violated. Now I really, really don't like TN, but how can you violate rules when things are so vague?

GO BIG BLUE!!!💙💙💙

This is so stupid. Just shut up NCAA. You have zero credibility left. Picking what to enforce and who and when to punish. You've created a lawless wild west, and every major program is probably is some kind of violation. Ridiculous BS. Vols, just flip'em the bird. Nutless weasels.
Lawless when FSU and Tennessee just got hit? Slow maybe.

LOL, Tennessee was openly bidding on players and using NIL as an inducement. Sorry if they’re too stupid to read but that’s a clear violation. Tennessee, the same trash who just got off of paying recruits cash in McD bags and the usual suspects are defending them.

a couple of things that I have read in the past
the school is not supposed to offer the player NIL money, before commitment. That is "pay for play"
the money going to the kid needs a trail actually showing NIL... not just "pay for play"
Isn't that what a lot of schools have been doing? Either on the recruiting trail or in the transfer portal? How can Coach Smart set a non-negotiable salary cap on certain recruiting or transfer targets if he doesn't have a hand in what is being offered and whom it is being offered to?

The recruits and transfer kids primary contact is the coaching staff. Of course all initial NIL communication starts with the coaches and then gets transmitted to the collectives. To say the school is never involved in NIL is very naive. So Ryan Day had no idea his roster next year will have a record setting NIL cost? Yeah right. He just read about it on the internet.

Then why is UT being investigated and not UGA?

They were caught committing 100’s of violations. 21 serious level 1 for illegal payments to recruits. They paid the NCAA 8 million for no sanctions. Now they are caught again. They have cheated for years but the NCAA turns their head. ABC had the goods on them many years ago and the night before the story broke it went away. If this were UK it would have been death penalty. Just like UNC and U of L they won’t touch them. To much $$$$$

They were actually giving illegal inducements before a player was on campus. The Nico was flown to Knoxville in a boosters private jet on a recruiting visit. They need some post season ban but nothing will happen
I’d say to penalize Alabama, UGA or one of the “Bluebloods” would be bad for business. UT, however should be a slam dunk for the hammer.

Also, I gaurentee you Cal and Stoops is very involved in the NIL. What coach isn't? They know what certain kids want and can be available to pay them. There is no such thing as a power 5 bball and fball coach who is ignorant on what is going on with NIL at their school.

I read something that makes sense. Everyone knows all schools are using NIL numbers and offers in recruiting. The line you can't cross is that a player can't receive payment until AFTER they have committed. Aparantly, that UT QB might have started to receive benefits before committing.

Thanks for telling me. I didn't know that. I should know better than to think TN might not be worse than other schools. I had heard something about McD bags but didn't know the details. Thanks for filling me in on the details...and also about the
bidding on players. I feel like somebody should slap me upside my head and wake me up or something.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣That's what I like about RR. I can always learn something.

i agree...but THAT is supposed to be the rules.

I know this is off topic but does louisville still have pending sanctions?
