Tennessee fans low key complimentary of Coach Pope

UT has never been a good job. Historically, they are one of the worst SEC basketball programs of all time. It's to be seen if Barnes was just punching above his weight class there, or if they can sustain that with a new hire.
Disagree about ut's history. I'd rate them as probably the 2nd best, consistently over time, basketball program in the SEC. I remember back to the Ernie/Bernie teams and the fits they gave us. It seems like since those teams, every 6 or 8 yrs. or so, UT gets a group of players together that will give us problems for a 2/3 yr. stretch, and I don't recall any other SEC teams having that kind of success against us.

History really doesn’t mean too much in the NIL era. They’ve got arguably the nicest arena in the SEC and have beaten that cats more than any team. I hate the Orange peeps more than any program in the sec but even I can’t agree here
They’ve also lost the most to Kentucky. 163 times. They’ve won one or two SEC tournaments since the 70s, 2 elite 8’s in 70 years, 0 final fours. All they can hang their hat on is, beating UK. Just ask Ray Mears.

Alabama is easily the second best. They have the 2nd most SEC wins of any program. LSU has 4 final fours. Florida has 2 titles.

The past doesn’t really matter when you can openly pay players and players transfer every season. Kentucky is still their daddy tho

I told my buddy the same thing when I saw that on TV. Barnes looked really old (he is) and really tired. Like he really didn't want to be there. It is time for him to go also. He will be 71 this year and I know how hard it is to stay motivated after you pass that 70 mark. Even money can't motivate you like it once did.
Barnes is old school like Cal and this new era is just not sitting well with him. And I get it. But it is not going back to the "good old days" of amateur athletics, if there ever was such a thing.
This is consistent with the quote about Lanier "doing what he is paid to do". The old school guys have to adapt or go to the house. (I am personally old and old school and have gone to the house. But I like Pope's forward thinking.)

Good points. I'm going on memory only: I remember LSU (who I considered for 2nd), 'bama and florida all having a single sustained stretch where they vied for league supremacy, I can remember multiple little mini-runs by tennessee.
