Tenneessee fans literally only care if their basketball program beats Kentucky. Everything else is just gravy. They say without irony that Tenneessee has the most wins against Kentucky at home. But also forget they have the most losses as well....160.

Tennessee is finding out what it's like to be the hunted and what it's like when every team can make it's season based on beating you and when every team marks the calendar because you represent a quad 1 victory and an NCAA-T resume boosting win. It's tough. They've now lost 4 of 5 and 5 of 7. And yet, they're still likely looking at a 3 or 4 seed at worst.

I’ve tried to tell people for years. My mother is a UT grad. Half my family is UT. I went totally in the tank for the other side which is UK.
Lived in west Tennessee around UT fans my entire life. Stayed with my grandparents in Kentucky as much as possible.
I know from experience. How I compare them.

When you return back to your hometown, he still wearing his letterman jacket in the bar trying to be obnoxious and bully everyone but they don’t take him serious. He then ask you if he can borrow 10 bucks.
It is not a suggestion. I wouldn’t allow my kids to go to UT under any circumstance. They are the worst period.
That description is scarily accurate to most of their fans that I know. The others are Jan Brady’s and trying to be different from all the Kentucky fans in their family. Wanting to get attention and solely root for UT for that reason.

Well, you and I would know as well as anyone, wouldn't we? Growing up in northwest Tennessee, many of the people I grew up with became UK fans because Tennessee was terrible in basketball. I grew up watching UK play on channel 6 out of Paducah, KY.
So, this is the truth- Tennessee fans are football first and then women's basketball and then men's basketball IF they think the team is good. And that determination is made based on how well the Vols do against UK. That's the measure. Most jump on or off the bandwagon yearly based on that one criteria. I have family, whom I love dearly regardless of their supporting all things UT, and I never hear a word from any of them about men's basketball unless they beat UK. My father, who raised me to support UK basketball and regrets it to this day (ha!) usually asks me sometime in December if Tennessee has a good team or not. Prior to that he hasn't paid attention and he knows I actually would know because I always follow the sport, even when UK isn't great.
That's the difference between UK and UT basketball fans. There are die-hards of course, but well over half their fans are bandwagon fans. They pay attention after football and mostly when they play UK. If they win, they run their mouths like they're 8-time Champs. If they lose to UK, they don't want to talk about it and they're off the bandwagon. That pretty well sums it up. 😀
The job program is a little better than it was 15 years ago. But when I think of SEC basketball i think of the history and stars of UK, Ark, UF, and LSU before I think of UT. While it's good they care about basketball now, they will never be big or do great in it past maybe a 2 year span.
