Tai Wynyard. Nice footwork NZL U19

From the play by play summary, Tai only got going in the 2nd half. 2 early fouls in the 1st qtr had him on the bench for the rest of the half. His positive play and negative play went in spurts. TO's were a sore spot too. Great opportunity for him to improve his game. Even with the problems, he show himself good in the 4th qtr.

Anybody have an idea of how good the competition is for our guys in this tournament? Our 3 guys have all put up nice numbers to this point.

I am gonna watch the play-play summaries of our players for each game. The FIBA website gives alot basic info about the game.
I'll throw up a text file paste about each game summary with just UK players play by play if anyone is interested in reading it.
It would be spoiler for anyone wanting to watch a game after they are over, though.

One turnover and he sits the bench for a month at UK, but would love to see him progress and get some solid playing time.

I've seen plenty of these impressive Tai highlights when he's playing overseas, but I've never seen him doing any of that stuff over here. Kinda frustrating, but hopefully that'll change this year.

Who are our fringe players trying to make a roster? Does Dakari have a shot?

Dakari should be on a roster now. He's developed into the best big in the D League, but he's been screwed by the fact he got picked up by a team loaded with bigs.

I think he will be very improved this yr but I think his senior yr will be his break out yr that will ultimately get him drafted in won't be in the first round but a high 2nd pick is likely. He has improved greatly since he got here

Tai never even looked to post up last year. I think the length at this level bothers him.

Unfortunately for Dakari, he's an outdated player.

I actually thought he looked okay when he got minutes last year. At the very least he showed he wasn't afraid of contact or physicality, and he played with a motor and rebounded well.

But he may have gotten like 20 minutes all season. I think it was the Georgia game in Rupp we were down early and he gave us a huge spark of energy.

Hard to show you when he is on the bench.

He did spend most of his time on the bench last year so tough to judge his game from what little we saw of him. He sure looked great in that one video highlight but we've seen kids in the USA look fantastic in highlight videos all over the web. Transferring that to game action on D1 level is another whole thing. I'm wishing Tai the very best this upcoming season as that would make all of us UK fans very happy if he surprised us with good quality minutes all season long. That would spell a good deal of success for us if that were to happen.

The matchup for him looked like the weak link for his opponent, but I liked his moves. He clearly was the difference maker in that game.

He's playing right now, if you want to see him in action. #14 in your program.

In some cases, Cal's system is a double edged sword. It's hard to get playing time over guys Cal is tuning up for the NBA, but it is what it is. It will probably be the same for Wynward this year. I see a possible transfer in his future.

2 observations from the first half.

1) his free throws are terrible
2) he ain't never seen a spin move he didn't like

Maybe he has a chance to get some meaningful minutes this season,Cal's system doesn't lend itself to Wynyard's best skill set. There could be minutes to be had in the post position this year,Richards can't play all the time, hopefully Wynyard can give us productive minutes on a regular basis.
